Maybe open your eyes and notice there is 'by vergilius' above the HoN of your game. And no I dont think the best thing is to kill the most, else dicE would have won dicE vs Sage.. and many games like that.

Metrics are relative, and should only be used that way. Everyone loves to poke holes in metrics (since it is so easy), often because they are being used the wrong way. I used to talk about RPD (reps per death) and many people took it the wrong way. The last league season I looked at, the squad whose sharks the higher combined RPD won 82% of the time. Many people loved to be critical of that fact and assumed that I was saying that sharks should go out and try to increase their RPD like it would increase the number of games won. Obviously RPD is a relative number and should only be used accordingly, same with number of kills for a spider. Truth is that the squad with the greater number of kills will win the majority of the time.

It is just like MPG (miles per gallon), what a person actually gets or whether or not it is meaningful completely depends on the relative context of how the number is being used. There is value in using these kinds of numbers, but they are basically numeric generalizations. Mention them, and the trolls come out and start pointing out obvious exceptions while missing the point of how to use them.

I still think that you can tell a good shark pair if they have same # of deaths ... meaning they are switching off correctly and one is covering for the other when they are out of reps. They should be alternating deaths essentially. There really is no good metric unfortunately.

They will say something like, "Sharks deaths will be lopsided if one team is ahead, one shark is mining the tube and dying often, while the other shark allows him to die and head back down to tube” or “one shark lagged out 3 times so the other shark had more deaths”. Point is being able to pull some exceptions out of your ass doesn’t make the metric invalid, it only shows that a person doesn’t understand metrics.
