A question about TWL conferences

I was looking at the site the other day and at the different conferences. I noticed that we were playing people in the other conference.

Is this right? Shouldn't the rankings in a conference be based on the performances of a squad against other squads in the same conference and not those against squads in the other conference.

So how exactly does the ranking in TWL work?

I know I am probably opening myself up for an immense ammount of ridicule here, but I want to know how this works.

Thanks, I found what I wanted to know in there:

" Each squad will play the other squads in their Conference once (7 games), and will play 3 Non-Conference games against squads that carry a similar ranking (based on the Captains Ranking Poll). There will be a total of 10 regular season games. "

Still, I don't understand why you have the 3 non-conference games.

there's also the question of where you stand overall (in or out of conference). Thus by playing similar rated teams in the other conference sqauds get a clearer idea of where they stand in the league as a whole.
