I have a bit of time to spare before I head off to work, so I'm gonna address something I feel is an issue in Trench Wars... (and no, it's not the mystery of why vys sucks in all 3 ships, or why Apok is horrid after multiple years of playing). I'm gonna try to keep my personal opinion on everyone minimal in the following post.
It's the "let's join a good squad so we can bench our way to a title" mentality that sort of kills the competitiveness. Yeah, TWL is pretty damn competitive this season, especially TWLD, but is it really as competitive as it should be? LET'S BREAK IT DOWN:
Thunder; the most obvious case. A squad lead by the captain faggot Ease himself. Let's take a look at the roster, shall we:
Probable Starters: Raspi, Ease, Geisha, Mythril, Burnt
Now damn, that's one stacked line, with 3 of the top 10 (hell, some people can argue 5) wbs in, along with Geisha and Burnt as a 4th and 5th. No complaints, they all joined forces like the Miami Heat hoping to win... my concern, is the forgotten wbs.
You got players who can DEFINITELY start on 8 other teams in TWL, such as beam (he had a breakout year last season), CrimsonX (underrated warbird, does his job), CONFLUENCE (kind of forgotten, but dude can flat out play), FSTemplar (inconsistent wb, can be damn dominant if he gave a damn), saetep (great player in all leagues), Chuckle (believe it or not, the guy can still play, and start, for a lot of teams), Misled (people have seen how good he can be), Tohn (no-floating tactic works), Obi (loyal Thunder player, but if you give him a chance, he's a damn solid sniper), and finally, Zyphen (a guy who has an insane amount of potential, just doesn't put himself in the right spots).
Yeah, this looks like a load of bull, but think about it, all of those guys can start on any squad today other than Fierce and Thunder, some as 2nd options, some as 4th/5th options on "contenders". That's TEN active warbirds who are gonna be riding the bench. Ten.
Don't forget the old farts on Thunder who may get active... like Weaver, Grouch, Fujiwara and High Templar. Not to mention the guys who can fill in and play a few games, such as, dare I say, Violence, or even Turban, who actually played Semis last year and did a good job filling in.
I'd talk about their javs but I'm clueless in that ship.
Next up is Fierce. I was actually surprised to see that the "issue" doesn't exist so much this year, since some of their players from last year brightened up and went on their own.
Probable PLAYOFF Starting Line: RaCka, DEEZ NUTS, Apok, skepsis, Kyou/scoop
That leaves out one of scoop and Kyou. I expect deez to show up to season games, and racka to afk till playoffs, leaving out complications till playoffs do arrive. Now they got kyou/scoop (easily starters on every damn squad in tw - Thunder), death row (still a force), Geio (Gasoft got game), Casket (upcoming player), Vash (despite what I/Ease say, dude still is a good 4th/5th), Props (wtf are you doing??), Cres (ROTY will play against Paladen only) and finally WAR (I played with this guy a month ago, I'm surprised to say he's still alright).
Yeah not sooo bad. About 8 "subs", not much to complain with here to be quite honest, since squads do need depth, but a couple of those players on another squad, particularly Geio, Casket, Props and Cres wouldn't do much to Fierce's performance tbqh.
Then you got Dice and Penetrate in basing... Pene does have a lot of oldies, but damn, there are QUITE a bit of active players there who can start on other teams (cough Sweet cough). I wouldn't be surprised if I entered a TWLB arena when Pene is playing and see a freq of over 20-25 people for 'em. You're gonna have Vatican support me on this but let's face it, he only disagrees with it now because it's going against him .
I guess what I'm trying to say is, yeah, I get it, there are reasons for it. Some people want to play together, and the biggest reason I see is, well, people want to win. But wtf good is winning when you got that Adam Morrison, or, zidane on Thunder, role where you're watching 90% of your TWL games on the bench? Especially in Thunder's case, it's not like your even "earning" playing time, because regardless of how you play, odds are, that same veteran line is going to start most games (and even if I'm wrong, they're going to start all the important ones). I understand, not everyone is going to show every week, but come on, to have 15+ potential starters on one team? That's freaking insane, and retarded. Grow a pair and join another squad you dumb faggots.
THAT IS ALL.
