The people complaining about Paul's predictions seem pretty new to forums (09+), but this is how they've gone down for 8+ years. People shit talk, that's what stimulates most of the entertaining rivalries in TWL. This is what makes TWL fun, learn to deal with (or even enjoy) reading about people hating other people in between the actual predictions or don't read them at all. But definitely don't post saying they should stop, this is what stimulates some excitement in the game...

If you guys go into a predictions thread expecting to read ONLY "heated arguments on the skill level of players and teams," then you're going to be disappointed. Yes, there is plenty of this type of discussion, but there is definitely a good amount of trash talk that is essential to the traditions of TWL.

Ok, I can't put this any other way: you must be dumb. First of, I see a thread about TWL predictions and think to myself: oh good, someone decided to write something about the upcoming TWL, its rosters, game fixtures, who will win, lose etc. I start reading the first post and see this will be a nice thread indeed. Boy am I wrong.
Midway through it it just turns away from the normal TWL talk (I'm not talking about the rivalry and all the negative connotations that go with it, we all now this is good for making your enemies insecure) but the fact that all the language turns to "fuck you", "you suck, dickhead" and "blow up your penis", which really doesn't help either. In fact, it turns people away from reading the forum thread any futher as they realize only "douchebags" and "people with no brains and behaviour" play this game. Even more disturbing is the fact that such actions turn off many new people who start playing this game because they realize the society in this game is underaged, can't behave for "shit" and most importantly - don't know when to talk about real and important things and when to talk trash. I mean, come on guys - we are all human beings for god's sake. So start acting like this and maybe, just maybe, we can keep this game alive for a long period of time.

My opinion is that shit talking isn’t going to help the zone long-term because while some may enjoy it, some do not. This seems to be especially true with new players trying to break into the game. But I guess no one has the right to define what is fun for anyone else, if shit talking is fun for some so be it. I would assume the old adage of 'birds of a feather stick together' applies here and eventually (if not already) TW will become filled mostly with those who think shit talking is fun and a smaller amount of players who either don’t care or can ignore it.
IRL shit talking is often limited with those whom we feel closest to and know very well and isn't risked, for example, when you are in a business meeting or standing in the grocery line. But online we all get to be whatever kinds of assholes we want to be, there isn't much incentive in being nice. TW's attempts to try to deter parts of this (i.e. anti-racism efforts) has not been very effective, often giving those who think shit talking is fun a cause to rally around. Again just my opinion, but I think that free speech comes with responsibility. And part of that responsibility includes consideration of others.
