idea from Adman (not a great spider but cosistant):
Kill anything that is already firing at something else, help your team stay alive. And be a fuckbag to the best spider on the other team, keeping him on his ties from him is mkaing it easier for the rest of your team, i can take most people 1 on 1 or at least hold my own in the green ship. There once was a man from Nantucket.

While I mostly agree with what kookie said, I think those roles should be entirely dynamic. A good spider fills whichever role needs filling right then. BZ did say the meat shield thing, but it was about breaking a cram. camping is pretty much only effective when in flagroom. (Sometimes a single lining spid can help a LOT on enting, but it's very very difficult)

i was thinkin today in my own little world of ?go base, i'm sure almost everybody would disagree with the idea, but i'd like to see, for next twl or twd, a four spider max per base team. this 5 spider bs just makes games incredibly boring and emphasises "the cram". the basing league of trench wars shouldn't revolve around 3 ships, since ppl won't let levi's or weasels do their thing, and since lancs just suck, screw them. but the other two ships shouldn't just be for dueling.Philos> I both hate you and like you more than anyone in this game randedl

One guy as defensive, stay alive, doesn't rush so doesn't get the easy just got off of terr deaths. Lets call him 120-100.
I'd stick the 4th guy in either very or semi agressive, but I find if you look at every game where two good teams play, at least one spider per team is closer to the 1:1 than the others. (and I mean a good 10-20 kill margin)
So do deaths matter, yes, you're dead you can't shoot OR block. But i'd take the one blocker with 3 shooters any day.
If you're all blockers, you're fucked.
If you all go to agreesive, and you're not good at it, you're fucked.
Happy medium.
1) You have to priorities your roles. Say for example, you think the aggressive spider is more important than the guy keeping the passage under the flag free (only have somoene doing that if you've got 5 spiders). Therefore, if your aggressive spider dies then you have to have the other guy fill in his shoes until he respawns, otherwise they are just going to swarm over the top of the flag and bump you off while you're still shooting underneath the flag. Dont take the aggressive/guy under flag example as my only point, its just an example. However, the trick is knowing wh takes over from who. If you're the other side of the flagroom then dont zoom over to his position as by the time you get there he'll be back. This brings me on to my second point...
2) ... Flexibility. Once you have played a few games with everyone knowing their roles and everythings hunky dory, try and keep switching. 10 mins into the game the opposition have sussed out who is the key man in the team, the one who is getting all the kills, and so will hunt him. Have this guy swap with the defensive guy, and the 'under flag' guy swap with the camping guy, etc etc. I know the following example can only be related into subspace with great difficulty, but it highlights my point perfectily.
In 1966 England won the World Cup. They played a 4-4-2 formation, (4 defenders, 4 midfielders and 2 forwards), which was revolutionary for its time. Now everyone uses it. The key to this though was the midfield. They were called the wingless wonders as they were the first team never to use wingers (guys who run down the line and kick high balls into the area in front of goal). All their players cut inside and sat behind the 2 forwards, giving the forwards options, people to pass to. This totally threw the oppositions full backs (the two defenders on the edge of the line of four), they hadnt got a clue who to mark. Normally a winger would come running at them and they would floor them by any means possible. Now they were redundant.
Secondly, they wore each others shirts. Really basic I know, but when numbers 9 and 10 are always the forwards, and you're a defender and have been marking 9 and 10 all you're life, and all of a sudden number 5 comes running at you, what do you do? Do you follow him and leave number 9 unmarked or do you stick with number 9 and hope someone else picks him up? If you've ben reading this far I commend you, I'm nearly done.
Here's the brilliant bit: they always changed. The 4 midfielders all knew each others roles and so every know and then the an outside midfielder would swap with an inside midfielder, and the defender wouldnt know who to mark. In essence, they fucked everyone else over.
Although this can probably never be performed in a basing match, and 99% of you have missed out that last chunk of writing and just read the last paragraph, the best basing team there ever was in a few years time will be able to do this, and thats what people need to be aiming for.
Of course if you come up against some crappy team whos never based before then switching and baffling wont do anything as they hadnt figured out whats happening yet in the first place!Last edited by ZeUs!!; 05-25-2003, 08:09 AM.Originally posted by Facetiousedit: (Money just PMed me his address so I can go to Houston and fight him)
