Hey dudes,
As some might already know, this season was Sweet's last (i'm 95% sure of it anyway), and what a way to end it off. So this is something I kinda wanted to do, a classy way to end off a good run, without too much trashtalk (a mini-biography). Yea this is insanely nerdy, but, meh, TWLD Champions are allowed to do this once in a while.
Sweet started as a squad back in the spring of 2008, with Desire, Jones, Lame, Crunchy Nut, Misled, resurrected, and other euros. These guys used to go HARD, in fact I recall they had forums to discuss some stuff, from recruits to play styles. Trying to do their best Pirates imitation, they were relatively serious in how they wanted to lead a squad. I was new to the zone at the time, coming from SVS thanks to emovt. We were mocked a lot, and we got in intense e-battles a lot, with vt emo'ing out 50% of the time, and others quitting for a week or two.
Anyway, despite a lot of adversity, we managed to play our first TWL, which was Season 12. I remember during that year, there were squads like HEAVY, Quake, Pirates, Dynasty, Sake, and Thunder. Our line consisted of Caos, Jones, Vt, Dak, Spaceship, with myself/Ricko off the bench. We established the newbie strayer reputation that we currently have, and again, got hated a lot. We had a mini-rivalry going with Dynasty, which was cool. After managing to make the playoffs in a tight race, led by Jones and Caos, we lost to a Pirates team (hercules, scoop, vys) in quarters.. That year, Thunder beat Quake in a close one.
After that season, more emo happened, etc etc. We split up for a while, where I managed to win TWEL-D (EZ), and then reformed back on Sweet. However we had some new additions in veterans Crome and Foreign, as they led the squad, with Seismic. Again, this was serious business, and at one point, we even name-changed to the famous Siege. This got an INSANE amount of hate. So we went to Fatal, and played TWL there.
Lol Season 13... I played on "Riverside." because vt emo'd the fk out, lostpassworded Riverside, and got himself banned. That season it was myself, Seismic, Dak, Jones, and Spaceship. We had literally nobody off the bench, in fact, some games we played with an SVS player who refused to press thrust because he didn't wanna ruin his svs skillz lool. Again, we managed to make it to playoffs, where we played against Thunder (Raspi, Ease, Geisha, Chuckle, Burnt). All those nerds listed were active and honestly, at the top of their games (- Raspi, heard he was even better before). We were down 18 round 1, and we were all sucking. Then we went on an insane run (I went from 0-8 to 10-8), and managed to win. We unfortunately lost in 3 rounds, in a tight set of games (almost took round 2, but Spaceship 1-10'd), but we were the closest to beat Thunder that year (Ease/Raspi's words, not mine). Sorry QS
Anyway, after another emo'ing offseason, and more crap, we reformed as Sweet, with some new additions. This was supposed to be "the year", because we had added Raspi, Vash and a2m to our core (we 3-leagued that year too). It took a lot to get these recruits, but we were confident that this was the year.
Last season... Season 14. Vt had rejoined, while Seismic took a year off. Our line was Raspi, Vash, Jones, River, a2m/vt/dak. On paper, easily our best year. We managed to win every game that year, except Fierce (nobody showed) and Thunder. We played Asians in Quarters, and beat them (Jones played well, I had a 22-4 round). Then Thunder came in Semis. where Vash had a parade or some crap, despite his endless trashtalking sessions with Ease. Anyway, round 1 was really close, but we lost by 4 (Jones, Raspi played well). Vash didn't play that round, and I sucked. Round 2 came around, and Vash played. It was a tight game all around, we were up 42-40 or something, and Vash died out (5-10). At this point I was like 16-8, and Jones/Raspi were both playing well. Unfortunately, Dak/vt combo went 1-10 (vt played well tho). Anyway, lost by 3 again, to, Thunder aka Sk8. They eventually lost to a stacked Fierce squad (Mad/Epidemic/QS form), because Ease dc'd. Imo, Thunder woulda definitely won, but hey, that's just this man's opinion.
This year's offseason came around, and we were all pretty bitter about last season's result. After hopping around some, and some talk of no reform of Sweet, we all decided to come back together for one last year, and bring back the original core. Nobody really cared too much about winning - me and Jones. The only new addition was Engineers, who was a player that nobody really knew about.
This Season, we were supposed to be really deep. Unfortunately, newbies like Caos, Seismic, Ricko, Poseidon, and other players went afk for the season. I had a horrible season, because every game conflicted with an SVS match, which I cared more for (SVS playoffs). So despite a lot of expectations, we had a pretty bad season. Jones managed to carry us throughout the Season. Now all you haters better recognize there's new dispute- Jones was Season MVP. Despite losses to Hit, Fierce, Thunder and Penetrate, we managed to BARELY make the playoffs (in tie-breaker fashion). We were forced to add 24 and LaG KiLLer to some games, because nobody bothered to show.
Anyways, playoffs came around. We played Pene in Quarters, and for the first time all year, we all picked up the slack. Engi and I were on a roll both rounds, and our styles finally meshed together, and we took care of business in 2 rounds.
Here's where it got interesting. Semi-Finals, which, and you can ask ANYBODY on Sweet, was this year's Finals (no offense Dice). Sweet against Thunder for the third year in a row. This was the first year I saw Thunder dd'ing before a match (they dd'd 10+ times in 1 week, wth is that?), and with the addition of Mythril because of the prior season's dc (gg ease), it was supposed to be the best year. Raspi, Mythril, Ease, Burnt, Geisha, Chuckle? Pretty solid. We managed to take care of business, as we won round 1 in this year's Finals, with myself/engi leading the way.
Round 2 came around, and it was a tight game all the way. We were up by 6+ but choked mid way through. However, in the dying minutes of the game, it was 1v4, and I managed to bring it down to 49-47, but lost. Lots of trashtalk of this game existed, especially with Mythril, and when round 3 came around, it was all business. Engineers and myself came out hitting everything and we managed to FINALLY beat Thunder.
At this point, everyone on Sweet basically knew: we were TWLD Champions. Engineers went on vacation in Alaska (pos), but we were sure it was over. Dice in the Finals put up a really tight fight (harder than I expected), but we managed to win it. We all knew this would be our last TWLD game together, and vt put up insane numbers for us, with Dak, Jones providing a LOT of support. I played alright too... vt was definitely Finals MVP (ty to his desktop). We prevented a trip-crown, and that's something I'm proud of. Good games though dice.
Anyway, yea. I know this seems unneccessary at this point, but I wrote this bs up for a reason. One, it's fun to reminisce and think back, even though this is just 2d spaceships. And two, for squads like Penetrate, Paladen, Dark, Asians, Anti-Scrub, etc.: keep at it. We won with the same exact line we started with.
It was much more e-rewarding winning with the people you started with/like playing with then it was joining a stacked squad. Yes, this is where the trashtalk comes in. This is definitely a shot at newbies like scoop, vys, Mythril, Unabled, who have yet to win, but join stacked squads in order to win. Then there's newbies like Weak, and the majority of Fierce, who joined up together in order to win, and benched. Yea they won, but meh, that was pretty tainted with the whole Ease thing. Win another one n00bs.
As far as shoutouts go, <3 you Sweet squadron, am a Sweetie forever. Ya'll straight up rock despite your emoness (no idea how much emo there was, whether it was Jones being mad @ me for cheating on a girl, or Jones refusing to talk to vt which made vt almost not play Semis this year). You made spaceships fun, and frankly dunno if I'm gonna keep playing without the squad. Jones, vt and Dak, you guys are awesome. Space/Engi I guess you're ok too.
