Only realistic and feasible approach would be to make TWL rostercaps a LOT tighter. Like... a lot. Imo it should be like 8-10 for LD/LJ, then like 12-14 for lb. (If you're a 2/3-league squad just add it up). Keep twd roster cap the way it is, but this'll hopefully stop these faggots who claim that they're only on squad to play with friends but actually care about pixel medals to either just be on twd roster, or join/form another squad.

And Downfall, not trying to call Pene out or anything, but in no way shape or form is Thunder a "deep" team. Yea, we have 45? twd players, but we have retards like Ryan on our twd roster. Penetrate has like 15 capable lb players who probably bother showing too.

Why should people be forced to play with people they don't like or think are good? (even though I'm playing with Tiny this season again) Also did you even bother to look at the first 7 seasons of TWL? The winners consisted of siege/elusive players and then syndicate/light which had players from siege/elusive just with different squad names pretty much. I agree with what Burnt said, probably the only time I'll ever do that again.
WE WERE ON THE SAME TEAM MEGA!!! We lost the basing final by 7 seconds, remember? Thought we all had a pretty good time together

I was referring to the 3 seasons + cup of basing and 3 seasons of jav prior to the established dominance, which started season 5 I believe. Wasn't referring to LD.

Isn't there a magic TWL non-draft roster number you'd be comfortable with, that you can include all your longtime squadmates/people who really want to be together, but that also kind of forces the fringe semi-active non-committal talent to get drafted? i mean you talk about the negative effects, isn't there the possibility of getting drafted to a middle-tier team rather than benching for a title will throw some onus of need for that player that motivates them to help a squad and be a leader, all without the appearance of 'choosing' to play on that squad -- they do well, they get respect, they don't, they can just shrug it off and say they got drafted and didn't even want to play.

So, if 10 is too little, what if someone tells you 20?

What's wrong with playing with a few newbies? When I was new and I got the chance to play with a veteran it gave me more reason to play the game and try and get better. Maybe some of the newer TWL players or TWD players feel the same way? Should be contracts as I stated a year ago. Allow a player to apply to a squad with an option of 15-30-45-60 day contract next to his name, then the captain can choose whether to accept it or not or propose a deal they'd like. If the player wishes to leave a squad during his contract he'll have to wait a longer period of time before applying to a new squad as a means of punishment, he can be traded to another squad for another player, but if he does leave it would effect him greatly. This could play in with a rating system on the players profile based off his TWD/TWDT-D/TWL stats, acts of loyalty, and w/e else. So if the player leaves a squad during his contract his value decreases and so on...would add additional info, but I have to coffee poo and get ready for work. PC!

Claus, as has been stated numerous times, there are plenty of legitimate reasons for people to to not like the squad/situation such a draft would force them into. You don't seem to even comprehend the possibility of how shitty that new squad could be for them (and not even talking about level of talent here), or how shitty it would be to just simply lose contact with the players they enjoy chatting and playing with on their old squad. It isn't a "win-win" situation where they "just gotta get motivated." Choice matters.

Even the very act of how a person lands on a squad matters. Let's say you have a situation where a player is put on a squad where, if they had chosen to go there freely, they would have actually been happy. The squad chat is entertaining, the team mates aren't complete retards, and they fit in well with the rest of the lineup. If you were to force that same player onto that same exact squad, it would end up being a negative experience. This is human nature. We like making our own choices. If you force a choice on a person, no matter how good it is and how much they would have liked it if they had made it on their own, they'll resent you and the situation simply because they had no say in it.

You seriously need to step out of your own shoes and into the shoes of the players who would be traded around like pieces of property. Right now you're only focused on getting fresh talent on your team and how great that would be, while being blissfully ignorant of how said players would view such a transfer.

Also, keep in mind that there's more at stake here than who gets thrown into a TWLB lineup on game day. The people who fall into the category of "not quite starters but totally the first on the substitute list" who never play because the "starters" on their squad show up to every game aren't just dead weight. They probably play a lot during the week in normal TWD games, keeping the squad active and allowing said "starters" to get tons of practice when only 3-4 of them are online at any given time. You seem to think it would be no big loss if the borderline players were bummed out by being moved to a different squad and stopped playing, because "they don't really play TWL anyway", but you're forgetting about the health of TWD games. Pissing off those players and getting them to leave or just not log on as much would affect every squad and every player negatively.

The more you post about this the more apparent it becomes that you just read something Mattey said, thought about the positives and negatives it would bring your way, and gave little thought outside of that to how it would affect players in different situations. You need to stop thinking so narrowly. There are plenty of obvious drawbacks to this idea that are not even debatable to go along with its potential positive effects, and you haven't even considered them.

i preambled it with mattey's quote, but i've brought up this issue before in several TWL campaigns, so i'd disagree with you on the basis of my creation of this thread. secondly, the draft was merely a possiblity, not the main focal point of the issue or the discussion. i don't know why your entire post is so tersely worded or so full of assumptions about my train of thought -- although i guess you were more-or-less polite about it.

i don't think you need to act like we're ripping apart children from their parents and selling them into slavery. not to mention you're ignoring the fact that the hybrid system i put forth would generally mean people who really want to play with a specific group can, while others more amenable to the idea can be part of the draft. but a draft probably wouldn't fly anyway, which is why the thread is here to put forth new ideas

maybe there is nothing wrong with the system, or simply nothing better -- and the crux of the issue is the amount of people basing and getting into basing or other leagues -- and getting new people to stay and interested in TW is the real issue. in which case there are 2 threads in Trench Wars forum about it.

Wow! I can't believe I missed this thread for this long. Another great opportunity to troll Claushouse.

This idea can best be analogized to government regulation of the free market. Too much regulation will just hinder competition, not to mention piss people off.

I am pretty sure when mega played with you in the draft tourney, he wished you would commit suicide Claushouse (maybe he did not explicitly say so). The thought of having to deal with people they don't like makes people congregate in squads with people they can tolerate. It just so happens that this congregation of players brings with them 90% of the talent in the zone. The draft tourney is a prime example of how this idea will fail. People for one place less substantive value on it as it has not been promulgated as TW's marquee event ever since its creation. Secondly, there is something satisfying in beating a "powerhouse" squad (see Sk8 vs. Syndicate) and likewise something satisfying about keeping the newcomers at bay (Dice/Thunder).

Which strikes at another point. The skill-cap of the zone in general has NOT gone up at all. From what I can tell after returning from my year long hiatus, the skill level of the average player did not go up. There is still room to improve for several players who are active. Of course you will have your players who always excel at their respective ships (the same can be said for any game), but that is to be expected.

However, this proposition is probably one of the most patently horrendous ideas I have seen in a while since the day Thunder decided to pity recruit Claushouse. But I wouldn't expect anything more from a guy who rages at people for skipping cutscenes in SWTOR. Trololololololol.
