  • High Idea (to make people active)

Randomly this idea popped into my head, to make it so that you (as a single player) need to play in a certain number of twd matches to qualify for a position on a twl roster

And if you wanna be really strict, to force squad hoppers like me to stop hopping, you could make it so that you have had to play those given numbers of twd matches on the same squad you plan on twling with.

Somebody probably mentioned this before, and I don't care too much about whether this actually happens or not, i just want to see if people think this would increase tw activity

        a solid idea.

probably the best idea for TWL, since there probably won't be any substantial rule changes (like this or anything else) ever, is to simply grow the TW population by finding ways to keep new players and giving them more in-your-face opportunities in transitional activities that lend themselves to leagues (ie, a base that is actually like the LB base, !queuing feature to drop 12 ppl in pub into restricted-ship games, throwing people who start the game into spider and getting kills and team spirit and immediate feedback that makes them stay).

elim used to be the gateway to joining a squad and JDing and DDing, but the population too thin now, and the majority of the players who still play are so good that the gap between skill levels is not fun for them.

I actually like this roster idea. It would definitely cut down on last-minute hoppers.

Some people might realize they won't be able to start on the squad they've been on, and wanting to play TWL they'd like to join another squad where they can actually make the lineup. Instead of encouraging people to switch squads to play, this will only worsen the way people get stuck into squads and narrow the competition even more. The problem isn't people changing squads, it's not having enough squads to choose from.

I think this is the main issue really. You can fix the activity between the players who play once in a while, but that will only be a temporary fix.

I have always felt that in order to get any level of activity to increase would be to go through the "newer" players in the zone who have minimal familiarity with our divisions. Yet it is so much more difficult for them to "breakthrough" and become any thing but a blimp on the radar because our leagues are so established that the gap in skill level is just too big. The mere fact that at least in basing the lower tier basing squads make it to TWL is a problem in itself.

I figure it would take the whole community to change this. I don't think its a issue of apathy, but the fact that when we all got into the game there were avenues that were much easier. There are players out there, even looking at a roster like Mellow where they have over 50 members. With TWL over now it might be a great time for newer players to be integrated into new squads somehow..Perhaps some sort of incentive program for squads to recruit from Pub? Mandatory tryouts? I don't know.

??? dont think you understand the point of this, its to stop players from afking all season and showing up only to play a few twl games, if people wanna play twl, they have to play in twd, simple. And as for the "stopping squadhoppers" rule, that was more of a joke but it would def stop squadhoppers

I think the reason why there are less and less new players joining squads is because most caps only care about twl, and they have enough players to choose from with the already existing playerbase, and they know that there is absolutely no way that some pubber is gonna start for them, so there is no reason to recruit them.

I don't think it's hard to find new talent, i constantly see decent players in wbduel, and sometimes pub. I recruited TOOBEAST to penetrate from pub before i left them, i didn't even know he played twd because the only squads he was on before were teams i never played cuz my squad would ignore challenges from them. But now that he's on a squad included in "topteams" he's playing in a good amount of dd's and has even been starting to base. You can tell he likes it better than other squads cuz this is legit the longest he's been on the same squad for his entire subspace career.

The problem is that most twl caps don't give two shits about them, the only people willing to recruit pubbers are lower tier squads, and players don't want to consistently get raped or shunned in twd matches. I think being on a squad where nobody accepts your challenge because you're too newb is srs damage to ones will to log on.

ya Royst, agreed. I really think you did a great job with Tenure, and I feel like mods/staff really failed to capitalize on this momentum and integrate and help the whole process you successfully put into motion, and that's really disappointing.

it would have been so easy to add real basing to Pub, to allow a certain number of non-rostered persons to play in twd matches to keep activity up, to integrate learning squads into the whole system, and they stood there and did nothing.

Nobody wants the challenge of starting/joining a different squad than [insert previous TWL champion] and helping to develop those players around them in that squad while tuning oneself to adjust accordingly to those around them. And as long as people wanna bitch and moan about not being able to hop onto the squad that they best think will make it to the TWL Finals right before roster locks, there will never be a rule to keep players from squad hopping cause nobody really gives a shit.

Raazi's idea is actually quite sound cause you'd have to commit to a squad early (assuming you require a full season's worth of games to be played prior to qualification) and once you've played so much for a single squad, there's really no turning back. You just gotta convince these lazy asses to stick around and actually challenge themselves to help develop others around them that wouldn't make it onto elite squad rosters.

                              The other posts: tl;dr.
