Hot or Not - Week 10
Revenge vs. Cobra
15:00-8:27
Bobby Brevenge continued to treat opponents like Whitney Houston's face, punishing teks with their merciless holds ("Say no to Cram!"), as Glavitik (105-48) once again led the way, with strong performances from SquallFF8 (82-49), MM God (91-34), hellkite (90-44), and solid undering from skatarius (74-54), who had the unenvious task of handling top-tier spider Renzi (67-64) under.
Vehicle (2.9 RPD) and menelvagor (2 teks) sharked for the undefeated Revengers, behind solid terring from Pressure (29-4, 2 teks).
One of my favorite duos, Dwopple (2.8 RPD) and Creature (2.8 RPD) took on the vaunted enemy sharks, heading up turban (78-68), flared (70-53), infrared (70-56) and Murder (66-53), as their top overspid this season necromotic suffered two immediate lagouts and was subbed, much to their detriment, while Chief (23-11, 1 tek) handled terring duties.
Said Murder after the game (with a bruised lip and closed eye): "I tripped... and fell down the stairs... it was my own fault. Please don't tell them I said anything!"
HOT: skatarius. Revenge's overspids get all the glory, but skat's been a rock for them all year, he gets the nod for strong play under against one of the best in the league
NOT: hard to blame anyone for getting rolled over by merciless Revenge, who are firing on all cylinders
Sweet vs. Sage
15:00-12:30
Sweet closed out the season with a strong win, with great performances from Riverside (29 kills, 1 tek, 2.9 RPD) and hulk (3.0 RPD), led by zeebu (118-47), Ra (107-59), Eelam (106-69, 3 teks), Jones (97-57) and Engineers (95-59), with Burnt (31-11, 2 teks) in tow.
Superstar (2.7 RPD, 1 tek) and Zyclon (2.8 RPD) sharked for Sage, ahead of Kawrae (98-64), Havu (95-82), NL>Trigger (86-67), Ogron (77-80) and euforia (78-88, 4 teks), with Zizu (52-9, 4 teks) terring.
This game came down to Sweet's great cramming and Sage's abysmal cram-break, as Zizu outplayed Burnt and had 2 less deaths, but Sweet started off with a 6-0 lead off a 5 minute cram, which Sage was never quite able to close. Hulk/Riverside had some great timing, Engineers posted up a nice anti-camp and all 5 spids balanced nicely to crush Sage's weak cram-break (and paper-thin cram with no balance.)
You would have thought lifelong virgin and 2-time Olympic Javelinist (the Freudian cigar of Olympic sports) Children was on Sweet wearing a chastity belt given the difficulty Sage had getting into that cram.
The FR battles were fairly close, although I liked Sweets overspids play better, and thought they were more aggressive, although Sage countered nicely on overpushes, netting 11 teks.
But ultimately Sweet managed to amass around 11-12 minutes of cram time, mercilessly firing down. Kudos to them for a great overall performance at every position.
HOT: Hulk/Riverside, combining for 43 kills averaging 3.0 RPD, doing a fantastic job holding cram for almost 12 minutes with Swiss-like clockwork, solid cram breaks, and nary missing a rep while mining the hell out of Sage's side
NOT: Sage's awful cram-break, and slightly less awful cram, no balance, too much hiding the corners instead of shooting down, I think i got only 3-4 kills in cram entire game, was embarrassing
HOT Player of the Week: Engineers. Sweet's sharks were great, but I really liked Engineers strong play under, dominance in the mid-base outdueling players one-vs-one, good anti-camp in cram, and solid camp-breaks with strong positional play and energy management -- made Sage spiders look bad in the mid
Next Week:
One of the biggest and most important of the games arrives next Sunday, as basing scions Penetrate and Pandora throw down to decide who finishes #2 and #3 in the league, with the winner getting a by (Although, to be fair, Pandora already has bi in Kate Upton.)
It won't make much difference though, as the loser will annihilate Sage in the quarters, while it looks like Cobra and Sweet have locked up the #4 and #5 spots, and will play for the honor of losing to Revenge in the semis as they stomp into the finals undefeated.
What isn't a certainty, however, is how Pandora and Penetrate will fair against each other both next week, and when they eventually face each other in the Semi-Finals during the Playoffs several weeks from now. So this will be an interesting preview.
Interesting matchups include Cintra vs. Cape in terr, a repeat of last year's final, Solacer/Trasher/Royst vs. ??? (Shayde/Leitz/diakka/sarger/Ease/???) on the over is a huge question mark, for Pandora in particular, since they've had a revolving door policy.
For my money, though, the most interesting match-up will be Acidbomber/zhou (or Blahhy.) vs. Spezza/Kate Upton -- the two strongest under combos in TWL at the moment. They've both crushed the competition under, and should be fun to watch; my money is on Spezza, but we'll see.
