Season 18: TWLB Official All Stars Roster

I couldn't agree more claus. I wish we had a bigger voting panel and people would vote objectively as opposed to people skimming down the list and voting for high recs or for their friends or against people they dislike. I don't think you will ever be able to change that aspect of it or make people vote seriously, but maybe be able to control it to a certain degree? Maybe some version of player based voting, mixed with a selected panel of all star voters/captains could be ideal for next season? Keep the public involved and select a panel of experienced basers/captains to be on the panel of each league or some variation? I dunno, but I'm open to ideas. I think that getting the ball rolling this season was the first step though.

Wow...what an impressive list! I congratulate every single player that has earned their right, position, and reputation to be the best players to have ever stepped in a TWLB arena! What an honor this is for you guys to be a part of TW's first all star game. Everyone on that list is truly a gaming Trench Wars professional and have earned their RIGHT to have their names on that list of greats. You guys are the reason players like me have the inspiration and motivation to improve myself and add competition to this game. It is such an honor. I'm so happy. I hope all of you keep doing what you're doing so players like me have motivation to may be one day...just one day I can say I played with or against you guys. What a beautiful and inspired list. This is definitely going down in the history of TW greats. I hope one day I will be as good or maybe JUST AS GOOD as every single spider on those lists.

So the 24 TWLB "ALL-Stars" players got chosen by a total of how many voters?
No offense but this was a waste of time and effort. I doubt that this was due to anything that you did wrong, the 'All-Star' thing never was that good even when the league was. Now that the league is faltering the 'All-Star' concept really does little more than reveal just far the league has declined in recent years. It's time to 'let it go' (insert video here). Next year just don't do it in any fashion or you will risk pissing on the grave of something that it better off left in our memories.

Agree to disagree. I think the reason why, we did not get a booming turn out in the votes is because we have not done it in so long. I think if we continue to try and keep evolving this into a better system, that it will progessively get better. Maybe not in leeps and bounds, but slowly but surely. I will not give up on something so easily simply becuase people think its not worth the effort. Maybe, just maybe, this will encourage people to play more during the regular season, because as we all know, there is a bunch of talent not on these lists, simply due to people not caring during the regular season. If you give them something to strive for, maybe it will boost a small bit of interest. Time will tell, and I plan on putting some time and effort into it.

Maybe incorporating it back into the TWL website for the future would help and get it in place so that it is easy for people to vote, and all you gotta do is advertise the link to people who are participating in TWL.

You missed my point. My point had nothing to do with something being 'worth an effort'; it was about doing more damage than good. We aren't on the same page. I am talking about doing things poorly or incorrectly under an umbrella of 'good intentions' without stepping back and seeing the big picture. The truth here is that there IS a substantial chance that doing shit half-assed CAN do more harm than good. Myopically focusing on only the potential benefits, and then justifying it with statements like 'Maybe, just maybe, this will...' is to completely ignore that there may be a downside.
The downside is that every time we do something that fails it is much harder the next time to get it done. The downside is that every time we do something half-assed more players can develop bad attitudes towards it. There is indeed risk and cost to doing this stuff poorly or incorrectly. If you add all of this shit up over the years, you end up with a dead zone.

You speak of developing bad attitudes towards something, yet this is the kind of things said that sways people toward disliking something more than per say the all stars voting maybe not being done the most perfect way. This just seems like a pessimistic way of saying it needs to be better. Ok, we are definitely not on the same page and I’m not sure it is worth arguing over.

I am coming at this from a stand that what is broken with the zone is this ‘we are volunteers so we can’t/don’t have to shit right’. No one I have ever spoken to thinks that things have been done right, this includes the upper staff, development folks, and all the way down to the new players.

Are we really so clueless to think that the reason this zone is faltering is because we lacked ‘ideas’? The zone has ALWAYS had a huge amount of input for potential improvements. No, the issue is not a shortage of new ideas.

Is it because we never had people willing to do stuff? Surely no one believes that. Many, many such as yourself have poured huge amounts of their lives into this zone.

No, IMO the reason that we are in the shape we are in is due to trying the ‘shot gun’ approach to a product. Trying to be ‘all things to all people’. making decisions from the bottom up instead of having a master plan. It is because we have allowed too many things to be changed by too many people without proper justification.

So you can paint me out to be the reason for failure but I feel the zone has for too long been allowed to be pushed and pulled by unjustified ‘good ideas’. If this way fucking worked than explain to us why we are now here, some 17 years into this, and have so many problems. If we were constantly and actually improving we would have arenas, events and other shit that was almost perfect. Instead, we have Distension which has to be limited because of buggy code We have a hockey arena that sucks and requires a host to intervene every goal. We have a broken pub. We have pub bucks which took 1.5 years to wring all the exploits out of. We have us revisiting things like the TWL rules after this season. We are revisiting the flipping racism policy and procedure. The list goes on and on.

So I can sit back down and shut up if the majority of people feel I am doing the wrong thing here but I think that my input has been and is correct.
