  • TWLB: Change the 0 SC max

    Game type: TWLB

Thought: Having a maximum of 0 ship-type-changes (SCs) is bad.

Proposal: Offer 1-2 SCs only per game.

    Reasons:

    1. Remember what TWLB is meant to test (IMO at least).
Allowing 0 SCs places a hard commitment on what ship-types your team starts with, i.e. the manager's first and only decision on ship-types. For this reason, I will argue that we might as well call it "Trench Wars Ship Selecting League". Select a bad lineup and it's possible to be doomed from the start. Let's test something else, rather than the ability for a manger not to make this mistake.

    2. It will increase ship-lineup variety. (Well you guys said 5-spid was boring, right?)
I think I can safely say that 5-spid is the 'low-risk' lineup. Squads may not want to commit to something too risky that they can't change later. At least with 1-2 SCs, they can add a Jav, and go back to 5-spider if they really want. They could even go with just one shark and afford to put another back in if things don't work out.

    Notes:

    a. Reason 2 will only apply if TWL allows 5 spids. I think people should have as many spids as they want, so I included this scenario.

    b. The SCs cannot be abused to facilitate continuous "one strat for entering base, one other for defending", as only 1-2 SCs will be allowed, maximum.

    c. TWLB at the moment will only allow 0 SCs right? Otherwise nevermind.

    Any thoughts?

      Yeah, according to the rulebook:
      • 10.02 Each squad can only have a maximum of one Terrier and two Sharks per team. The remaining line-up can be compiled with any combination of ships. Use of Leviathans is prohibited. Individual player ship changes will not be allowed.

I think this is a bad rule. TWLB should definately allow shipchanges. But you mention 5 spiders; as far as I know TWL will use the 4-spider limit as long as the TWBD test goes ok. If teams are going to be forced to use a non-spider attack ship, then they should definately have the option to change it to something else (other than a spider though).

But yeah, I don't understand why ship changes wouldn't be allowed. It could be a good tactic to have a warbird for 5 minutes and then suddenly you catch them off guard by changing them to a jav.

If the 4-spid limit is carried out, then I believe that in lieu of a

        !change player:ship#

there should at least be a

        !switch PlayerA:PlayerB

option availible, if someone is just simply having an off-day in jav or something.

(Please, correct me if this option is already availible)

It would be cool to see Dual javs to get through a cram, and then switch back to one jav... or jav/wb or what not.

I like the idea of ship changes for twl of maybe 1 or 2. I don't like the idea of the changes used to attack then defending with a different lineup. Good stuff getting the ball rolling though nockm.

I don't like the idea of ship changes, I think it would be unfair to some of the teams with players who are less skilled overall. Squads like diso, pallies, spastic, where players can play multiple ships, yeah it would benefit them alot. But newer basing squads who have players who work their asses off to be good at one ship would basically get screwed. Also, i like the idea of taking a risk when you make your lienup before the match begins. It's part of the thrill of basing, not knowing if your lineup is going to be strong enough to fight off the enemies. But, if we're allowed ship changes, im fine with that too. Some of the benefits outweigh most of the negative aspects, so it's fine by me.

Some strategies are based on no SCs too, so it would make those weaker because this way a team can take measures to counter your strategy by changing ships. And seeing how a 5 spid strategy is a standard issue, SCs would only benifit those teams that play that strat only by giving them a chance to counter (teams that play 4 1 or 3 1 1 are generally doing it because they know they have abillities to pull it off).

                  But also, yea whatever

That is really not a good argument. If a team is less skilled than their opponents then of course it's going to be unfair for them. If you want to win, either get better or stay shitty and lose. It's really not very hard to get decent at a few ships once you have become "good" at any certain ship.

please see this thread before rehashing an old argument. It comes down to a choice that the TW community just needs to decide on. Make a poll, go with whatever the majority want. if it sucks, learn from it, and do something else next season.

Please no more than 2 per game though.

I think 3sc per game and no spider restrictions.
