Apt, it's not just a matter of having an advantage, it's also a matter of TWL being supposedly the top level of tw where skill is what matters. even if you don't have an advantage, if you're bouncing around the screen, that's fucking up the game and creating a luck-based situation.

One guy with a bad connection can fuck up a whole game, especially in basing if he's a shark or a jav.

I don't know the technical stuff, but make the lag restrictions strict, if someone gets left out, that's a bummer for them, but a win for everyone else involved.

Current, High and Average pings don't matter. PL and I agree on this, the only lag numbers that matter that are recieved by the game, are Weapons Ploss, Spikes over a few seconds, and Some forms of Slow Ploss, which are dropped packets.

I have played many times against people with 10ms ping, who lag a lot more than people in the arena with 280+. If your ping is going from 10 to 180 within a few seconds, you are lagging and dropping a lot more than anyone else in the arena. Ping Fluctuations is the main reason people lag, and people don't seem to understand that a stable 320 ping, pretty much won't lag at all. It won't lag from your stand point at least, but it will lag from theres, you will drop all of their packets, and to them you , The cable user will be spiking. If anything Cable players should be removed from the game, not dial up users.

Initiate a Visual Lag rule, and let the Dial Up players play. By the time TWL starts, I probably won't be playing SS anymore, or will be on a Broadband connection, but either way, it's not the modem users fault, broadband connections have a higher chance of lagging and ignoring packets, than dial up.

that's complete bs. I used to play on dialup and I know that I lagged a lot more than I do now. I've seen the difference when someone gets a better connection.

justify it to yourself all that you want, but don't try to tell me that cable users lag more than dialup users because that's just nonsense.

dialup users are probably better at basketball too, right? and their shit is flowers and their farts are sparkles.

As far as I am concerned, Dial Up Users never have problems with packets, only the occassional spike, unless you are running on something like AOL or MSN with a shit modem, you will spike every 5 seconds to spec.

Cable and DSL users have major ploss problems, and rarely have 0.0,0.0 S2C C2S readings, plus real high Weps Ploss and Slow Ploss. One of the other major problems is that High Speed users seem to think that they can download shit and it won't effect their connection. Thats absolutely wrong, just because your ping doesn't go up doesn't mean you're lagging. Almost every Cable/DSL user is always downloading when playing SS, which causes killer Slow Packets and Weapons ploss, as well as a heavy ping fluctuation. See the game doesn't spec for Ping flux, but when you're downloading externally , lets say your usual ping is 60, your ping will be going from 60 to 100+. Which is defintly a lot worse than me running on a ping which is going from 190-210.

I agree about the downloading, and I do it too, but just when I'm screwing around, not for a twl game.

I have a shared t3 connection for my dorm and I guess that gives extremely high slow ploss.

Dorm connections really suck, it's shared bandwith and it gives you really high ploss. The only upside to it is you can download REALLY FUCKING FAST.

                  Wow you're on crack.

Connections can be good and they can be bad. Some cable/DSL users will have bad ploss, some dial-up users will have bad ploss. Some cable/DSL users will have bad ping, some dial-up users will have bad ping.

Meanwhile, some cable/DSL users will have GOOD ploss, same with dialup. And some cable/DSL users will have GOOD ping, same with dialup.

The lag restrictions don't discriminate. No matter what connection you connect to the internet with, if it sucks for TW, you don't play. This includes ploss. This includes ping spikes, this includes high ping.

Lag that spikes up to 400 ms means you'll get lagrushed so bad you don't even know what hit you. Not to mention the fact that bombs will seem to go thru walls on you. Oh yea, bullets will be negated too. Very fun indeed. 500 ms is fucken teleportation out of yo mind.

Yeah, I don't see how people are saying that 300-400ms doesn't show up as laggy. Even if you have a constant and steady 400ms, you are still going to throw off the game with the tanking of bullets/bombs and your shooting coming 2 inches from your ship. The greatest trick lame squads like to do is put their 300ms player in jav (RiArmada), so that when he rockets and shoots you basically need to be able to tell the future if you want to repel the bomb or portal away from it.

Tru, its not like they can shoot blindfolded and still kill the terr. And sometimes, people are so worried about people lagging, they don't even TRY to do anything about it (dodging or moving away? ) . However, it gets out of hand when things are eaten and u start teleporting around the map.
