  • new chris rock special

chris rock's new comedy special Never Scared just aired last night on HBO. i've seen all of his specials, and a lot of his earlier stuff with Def Jam, and i'd have to say this is just as good or better than any of them. i'd have to compare it to his last special (Bigger and Blacker) as far as his topics are concerned. in addition to some topical subjects, he again addresses racism, drugs, and relationships like he did in his last special, but the twist is now that he's married, he talks about married life as opposed to the single/dating life. the married stuff wasn't really my favorite part, but he was on fire when talking about government hypocrisy regarding drugs and race.

overall, well worth checking out unless you hate black people, or are a conservative republican (in which case you probably hate black people anyway ).

Was anyone else angered that Comedy Central listed Chris Rock as the 3rd best stand-up comedian of all time? I mean seriously, folks!

3rd best of all time? hmm...who were 1 and 2? i dunno, i think 3rd best is absurd, but i'd put him definitely in the top 10 or 20. so many more comedians influenced society---including the world. desi arnez, lenny bruce, robin williams, george carlin, jack benny, bob hope, andy kauffman, groucho marx, charlie chaplin, richard pryor...i could go on.

and those comedians i listed actually helped shape their craft and changed the world we live in. chris rock has a ways to go to before making a legendary impact. but to his credit, i think he has begun making that kind of impact. because during his latest comedy specials and during his tv show on hbo, he actually talks about important social issues, tries to enlighten black america, and does it while still being hillarious.

if he became more of an activist during the course of his career, i'd see him being in the top 5 eventually.

I don't think Charlie Chaplin would of been very good at stand up though, what with his speciality being silent movies and everything

True. Any countdown that lists Rossanne above Robin Williams or Jerry Seinfeld is automatically a load.

I think chris rock is easily top 5.

robin williams? give me a break, he's not funny at all, he just talks fast. out of every 10 bits he does, maybe one is funny.

I've listened to pryor, and I don't really think he was that funny, but at the time, I think a lot of the things he said was stuff that you just didn't say, so that made him funny.

eddie murphy is easily one of the best. Raw was maybe the best stand-up show ever.
