Who the hell said I ignroed IE completely?
As I demonstrated in my example, I wrote 70 lines of text just to ensure that IE would render it properly, simply because IE doesn't support something as basic as the Hover psuedo element.

I don't care if IE has 90% of the marketshare, and I still make sure my pages are viewable in IE. However, whether or not consumers care if IE sucks is irrelevant, as it does not deter from the fact that IE sucks.

My point is, that IE has too many small things that make it inferior to other current browsers.
I'm complaining that because of its monopoly on the browser market, I have to waste time ensuring that simple things will work in IE.

If you don't agree that all current browsers should conform to one another (Maybe match the standards set by a good browser) things would be a hell of a lot easier. If you don't agree with at least that, you can eat me.

I was looking at your portfolio, and you don't exactly do anything incredibly complex, no offence. I agree with Style in Simplicity, though.

The NT 5.1 kernel (Windows XP) is based on the NT 5.0 kernel (Windows 2000) which in turn is primarily based on the original NT kernel.
Linux wasn't the driving force behind the evolution of the NT kernel.
It doesn't enter into this picture on any level.

Not that any of what you just said describes any of the motives behind the evolution of the NT kernel, and you're incorrect if you think Linux never registered on Microsoft's radar. The fact that there is a, granted pretty over hyped, alternative to MS on x86 architecture that created it's own niche and software tree did cause changes in the release of Windows XP. The fact that they ported their enterprise kernel to their home consumer line at all should suggest that. Kinda hard to extrapolate, but having been only miles away from Redmond during the peak of the hype I assure you there wasn't a programmer in the Seattle area who didn't know what was going on with linux.

On an unrelated note, I'm told they're taking a lot of Palladium out of Longhorn. Good stuff.

I could make more complex sites and they would work, it just happenned that for those sites i've made there was no reason to make them any more complex than they are.

You cannot ignore IE. I know there are some thing that work in IE that dont work in other browsers - so design your sites using the crappest of the top browsers (mozilla firebird) - if it works there you can make it work in the other top browsers.

But i'm not here to teach you how to do things, read a book or something.

Designing completly cross platform without using a browser detection script is really limiting. The majority of CSS is handled inconsistently meaning if you plan to build without flash, you're stuck on relying on brute force table tactics to get thigns to look the same on each brower. Safari can't even handle pseudo classes correctly, what kind of shit is that?

Think about it... if a computer virgin goes to a store now and buys a computer they will get a pretty fast XP machine.... (fast is good, they never use it all and it makes "naughty things" quicker and easier)

If you were to count the hits on a website by only the more "clever" people, youd see very low counts of IE, and less microsoft based OS's.... this is why people target IE and Microsoft when coding virii and searching down exploits.
