      Spoilers ahead.

Meh, it was an okay movie... I just thought that lots of the shots could have been done better, the acting could have been better, and the soundtrack was plain awful. I think the director that did the movie produced this movie in the mindset of a hollywood blockbuster, and not an epic (the way the story was meant to be told). All the beautiful political intrigue that led to the war with Troy was lost. My favorite character (Odysseus) was hollowed out big time. Agamemmnon wasn't just a single minded warlord. They should have made this two movies and shown the smaller stories that make up the larger story. I think if Peter Jackson produced and directed this movie, it would have come out quite a lot better.

However, judged against other action movies, I guess it came out fairly well, despite its flaws. Achilles vs. Hector rocked. Helen was (great) eyecandy, but not much else. There was sex, there was violence, and there was more violence. *shrug*

I went last night with my little brother who is studying CLASSICS.

His holier-than-thou commentary included things like, 'the Gods played a large part in what happened, contrary to what was depicted in the movie'... 'Helen was not so submissive a character as was depicted, but she did seem to get stronger in the movie as it progressed'... ' where Achilles' cousin *tricked* the battalion into following his command in the movie, in the real books 'the gods' decree that he should dress in Achilles' armour'(and yes, he still died)... '[the guy who Paris passed the sword of Troy to<< Anais? >> in the tunnel(?)] went on to become the founder of Rome'...

I thought Achilles played his part perfectly but Odysseus was unanimously the favourite. Personally I found myself terribly embarrased that i would take my brother to such an unnecessarily violent movie.

Another ridiculous thing was that for some reason the theatre was having technical difficulties last night and the mopvie ended up cutting out three times, each time the lights and honky-tonk country music came on INSTANTANEOUSLY as the film went out. People were roaring with laughter.
Needless to say we got our money back. $$$$

Anyway, I thought it was a good movie, and as for people who want to argue about "what really happened".. nobody knows for real, or if any of it really happened at all, so why woudnl't the director be allowed to take some poetic license?

It was exactly as good as I thought it would be, entertaining, good action, but it got a little long... when they got ot the part where they had 12 days of peace I was dying because I thought it was just about over. Maybe if I had gone to a theater with better seats I would've liked it more.

First off, I havent seen the movie yet, but I saw alot of programs about it and stuff.. I should be going to see it soon tho, so after that I will surely post what I think then.

But, my opinion at this moment is: This movie should not be seen as a movie about Troy. but more as a hollywood movie, from wich the idea comes from this story.

Positive points: ( as far as I know ) There is no obvious "good" or "evul" side. You keep going between sides, because its not like: "The greek are the good people, troyans not". You really dont know wich side to choose. And as far as mindless action, violence, sex and drama goes, its a very good movie.

Negative points: It is nothing like the story many people know. I myself am a great fan of those old stories, specially greek mytholigy. Like the trip of oddyseus after the war, the war itsself. From what I know, there are no gods, atleast not an important rule. Wich is bad if you wanna make an epic on what happened, as far as its told. Because the gods played an very important role in this story, and it changes the whole view on these people. With these gods these people arent much more then handpuppets of the gods. And another thing wich the movie lacks now their are no gods is that the female person's have no real role in the story, Helena is no more then a fillup in the story, while the gods, and the important gods in this story are: Aphrodite, ( hmm, the other names have slipped my mind, is that evul wife of ZeUs!!. and that other one :P ). Further more, I think achilles plays a way to important role in this movie, because from what I know, he is like the headperson from the greeks. But in reality those were Agemmenon and odysseus. I havent seen much of these last 2 characters in all that stuff I saw about the movie, it was mainly the battle between achilles and hector. But I think odysseus is played and characterised totally wrong.

A couple of weeks ago I saw the Mini-serie about troy, 2 episodes about what happened, wich was really about the story itself. I think it was a very good serie. It was formed to the original story. But they didnt just take a greek story and used it. Because in this mini-serie the greeks looked alot like very brutal people, and troy innocent people being attacked by this savage folk. And when you read all those greek stories, the greeks look like real heroes and the troyans suck. But like I said, I havent seen the movie yet, and I could be wrong on some points. I think it sould be a good movie, but when you are really into greek mythologie and you think its gonna really be about it, you are at the wrong movie. BTW, I said I am only a fan of greek mythologie, I dont study it and I dont know everything about it.. not by a long shot. So if I said something wrong.. I dont claim everything to be right. When I like something I dont tend to dive into it and try to know all about it.

Yes this movie would have been better if made by someone like Peter Jackson, but Peter jackson would only make this a good movie if he was so into this story as he was at the LOTR story. I mean he was a reall fan of those books himself. But the movie would be alot better if they took more time for the characters and sticked more to the "true" story. But for just a holywood movie, it should be a good one. And like DoCk> said, its more a blockbuster then an Epic.
Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

That was a long fucking review for a movie you haven't seen.

Basically, it was a good movie if you want an action movie with an interesting story. It was a bad movie if you want a documentary about the story according to Homer.
