Probably because americans aren't very popular right now so they're often on the defensive when world politics being discussed, so that's the generic defense.

btw... not defending americans, just speculating on maybe why it comes up with americans and not other countries.

I'm not sure you've quite got this bloodzombie. I think troll King is talking about the views of some Americans, such as "we bailed you out", which are ill-informed and many people consider to be pretty offensive. I don't think he's talking about why people may have a bad reaction to Americans who say that kind of stuff (the reasons for that should be pretty clear.)

You ask why it only comes up with Americans. It's because it's only Americans who come out with stuff like "we bailed you out in WWII".

The US contribution in WWII is not forgotten. The US played a significant and much appreciated part. But so did Canada, Poland, Australia, France, Greece, Norway, India etc. etc. etc.... I couldn't list the total number of countries who played their part. The greatest number of casualities suffered by any country fighting the Nazis was suffered by the Soviet Union, something like 25 million dead, which I think was closely followed by the casualites from China (20+ million?), both of which were on our side.

I get fucking offended if I hear anyone from the US saying "we won WWII" or "we bailed you guys out". I dunno but I expect the US guys who took part would be offended by this kind of talk too.

Sadly, this seems a fairly common US attitude. So I wonder, like sws, about the US education system. And if you think the US is unpopular because of Iraq, well yes that's one reason but one reason amoung many. And WWII, it's not forgotten but it is history and things change. I think England has much more in common with Germany than it has with the US. I hope it does.

You're obviously referring to my post, so I'll address you directly:

Perhaps "bailed out" was the incorrect word choice, but regardless the point stands that I was directly addressing Mr. Peanuts' post asking "What does America do for us [Britain]?

I gave a frank answer. The United States played a VERY significant role in world war II, even prior to entering the actual war by providing cash/carry and lend/lease programs. I never stated that other nations didn't play a part in world war II, I'm saying that the United States did. In my views, that doesn't belittle others, but perhaps it does for you. Sorry.

Frankly, I could care less what other nations think of my country, because as a minor I have absolutely no say in the U.S. government and more importantly absolutely no say in past history.

Well its a shame the war was over when I was born, then maybe I'd be more appreciative. Remember, we gave you bastards radar in the war, without it your subs would have all been fucked.

              .
nah, I just meant it in the sense that when you attack someone, they get defensive. So right now when people are saying what shitheads americans are, americans are saying "did you already forget about WWII?".

              I dunno... nevermind.

Let's get it back on track!

As mentioned so many times earlier in this thread, I think every country has it's good ones and bad ones. However, I think the US has the prettiest "good ones".

                        • Go patriots! People often abuse history to prove they are right. But it's kinda blunt to go off and fight over who contributed most, to something insane as WOII.
Maybe I could forgive you if you were some traumatized veteran that got shot in the chest at Normandie, but man, sitting at your mothers PC bragging about what your country did in the past -including twisted facts and bold lies- is just pathetic.

05/09/1939 The United States declares its neutrality in this war.
10/09/1939 After a formal parliamentary debate, Canada declares war on Germany.
17/09/1939 American aviation hero Charles A. Lindbergh makes his first anti-intervention radio speech. The U.S. non-intervention movement is supported not just by Lindbergh, but by former president Herbert Hoover, Theodore Roosevelt Jr. Henry Ford and a number of senators and congressmen as well.

08/12/1941 President Roosevelt addresses the U.S. Congress, saying that December 7 is "a date that will live in infamy." After a vote of 82-0 in the U.S. Senate, and 388-1 in the House, in favor of declaring war on Japan, Roosevelt signs the declaration of war.
11/12/1941 In response to Germany and Italy's declaration of war, the US reciprocates and declares war on both Germany and Italy. Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua also declare war on Germany and Italy.

My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.
