You don't have to be a photoshop expert to shrink a image. You can use nearly every programm.. i'm a newbie at everything to do with graphics and i can do it... Don't pretend to be dumber than you are.
And the quality hardly changes anyway... they're not ment to be some high reselution pics anyway. Just something simple. If everybody has high quality avatars 100x100 and you have a full page of posts.. then 30 posts= 30 avatars. And that can slow down your comp.
