Most teams have played 1 or 2 games by the time of this posting, and the games have all looked to be very exciting. Canada vs the U.S. yesterday showed just how important this series is to the players, even if critics complain about this being just a cash grab before the NHL lockout. It's too bad that this isn't getting as much attention in the States as it is here in Canada, but the European games look like they are selling very well there too.

My pics for the final: Canada vs Sweden. There's just so much potential for good storyline matchups like Sakic vs Forsberg, or how the fans will treat Mats Sundin playing for the visiting team at the Air Canada Centre. Plus Sweden and Canada met in the finals for the last two world championships, and the Tre Kroner were also the only team to beat Canada in Salt Lake.

Ouch... US loses 3-1 to Russia, and it shouldn't even have been that close. People might have underestimated the Russians who outshot the US 45-21. So far this tournament, Robert Esche has been phenomenal for them, but only Keith Tkachuk looks like he's playing with passion. Unless they manage to bounce back against the injury-plagued Slovakians, they'll wind up facing Canada in the quarter-finals in Toronto.

Sweden has the speed, teamwork, and general skills to make it to the finals. As does Canada. Team Canada has a solid line of experienced players, and young flare/talent. Well Balanced.

It'll come down to who wants it more, and without doubt I'll be saying 'I told you so' when Canada takes the cup.
