christ. why does the russian gov't always try to save people by shooting at the buildings they're in? this isn't even the first time in the calendar year they've "fixed" a hostage situation by just KILLING EVERYBODY

The terrorists had thrown the bodies out of a window and local dogs had started to gather, eating the dead hostages. So the police went there to take the dogs away, and the terrorists probalby freaked.

I heard it was that some hostages had had enough and tried to make a run for it, the hostages still inside the building started shooting at them and the special forces heard a gunfight and had to storm it

I think that we should realize that such violence is going on in Isreal and the Middle East often, not all at once but this year both sides will lose probably the same if not more than in those few days the Russian's did. I am not trying to say this is a small thing, because it is not, but i think the media is blowing this way out of proportion.

There are a lot of other factors that increased media focus on this one though. This isn't the only incident in Russia in the last couple of weeks, remember. There was that plane crash and the bombings. Throw in the fact that this incident involved hundreds of children as victims and you have a compelling story. With lots of other children around the world about to have their first day of school around this time of year, and you have a build-up of sympathy. There's also the Republican National Convention happening at the exact same time, so this event provides another aspect on Bush's war on terrorism.

The media may be focusing more attention on this story, but there are reasons why the story appears bigger than otherwise. In this case, I don't think it's a matter of the media blowing things out of proportion as it is that the story itself is larger than it seems and the media needs to run with it.

Why don't we focus on the Genocide and hunger happening in other countries?

It just seems that because this happened in a non-3rd world country it is a huge fucking deal.

Argh, It is a huge fucking deal though, and I'm not trying to say it's not. But what I'm trying to say maybe the amount of attention that this one incident is recieving over other numerous incidents and conflicts is mindboggling.

if LMB carried 24/7 coverage of shit that happens in Germany and SMD carried 24/7 coverage of shit that happens in.. Brunei, relatively speaking very few people would care enough to watch Brunei's news for more than 10 minutes

if you were an owner of a newspaper, would you dedicate your front page to the attack in russia, or a Sudanese clash in Chad that killed 50 people?

A shame how there isn't more good news given publicity in the media. I know humans like drama, and death/destruction, but it can be a downer to read the newspaper/ go to yahoo news sometimes.
