I like most of your stuff Blast, well you did name 4 bands I had already mentioned, but I must say I just can't stand The Detachment Kit at all.

I'd recommend checking out ROYGBIV by Boards of Canada in addition to what Blast mentioned.

As for Spoon I think they have a lot of different sounding stuff, some of their stuff I immediately liked, other stuff I immediately hated. So give them a couple downloads if the first song you try by them you hate. Personally I don't like the Kill the Moonlight stuff.

Give it some time. I really didn't like it at first, but at about the fourth or fifth listen, I started to appreciate it.

yeah so i d/led almost every band suggested so to give everyone a chance. and i just wanted to waste time instead of reading my book for a test so here are some reviews.

Wilt: good stuff. they got a sound that reminds me of old STP some. though i am not sure why.

          Mogwai: creative and clever sounds.

Godspeed: little weird but follows the lines of mogwai in sound

wilco: already had some of there stuff. still a great band

Trail of dead: they got a great sound. good riffs and songs. they get the pv stamp of approval.

Ataris: good but the jury is still out on whether i really like them or not. gotta d/l a few more

          Audio Karate: superb

Feeder: i always wondered what happened to these guys. they disappeared after a while (weren't they on the can't hardly wait soundtrack?). these guys rock

Boards of Canada- i wasnt to o impressed with the songs i d/led. i despise happy cycling. i probably wont do anymore of this band

Bright Eyes: This band has several sounds. they range from radioheadesqe to old 97s ish. they are winners on my playlist

Built to spill: these guys are great. i am about to d/l all the songs of theirs i can find

The detachment kit: not as good as other bands of this genre but still worth having on the playlist. Dead angels make slow sound is a highlight

Don Caballero: what NOCKM said. very mathical and complex. jury still out on him though.

Hot rod circuit: good rock plain and simple.

Hybrid: could only get 1 song to d/l. though i wasnt impressed too impressed with it.

          Less Than Jake: Fun punk!

My vitriol: above average rock band. i won't be going out of my way to find their songs, but they will stay on my playlist

nerf herdernly have 1 song. its good but i need more first.

Portishead: Aquarius. i do not like this song. its the only 1 i have. so if anyone has better songs tell me or portis is gone

spoon: so many different sounds. like blast said, how can you not like them?

Sunny Day real estate: good stuff, i likey

The anniversary: they have a good sound. i need more of them.

The weakerthans: vocals are different than normal singers. good stuff

Amon Tobin- i got chocolate lovely and its a good one, i need more before i decide though

Les savy fay:The sound might grow on me but they aren't anywhere near being a favorite.

thanks for the new bands guys. i was running low on new stuff adn was afriad i would have to turn to MTV to find bands.
To all the virgins, Thanks for nothing

311 hasn't made a good song since 'grassroots' (I completely recommend their first two albums for checking out, after that, forget it.)

disliked... if you get all your music from radio and tv, you're the one whose oppinions are being controlled by other people. and not even really by other people, but by big business. time warner decides that something is gonna be popular, so they put it on TRL and blast it all over the radio, it's automatically popular, and you're their biggest brain-dead fan with the t-shirt on and Carson daley's dick all up in your mainstream white ass.

The jury is not out. You don't have the mindset of a 15-year old, and therefore, you don't like the Ataris.

excuse me for dredging this back up, but your referring to post-emo indie rock.

emo is like the rites of spring, hoover, etc etc

                edit: if anyone cares:
Jeffries Fan Club - i must be stupid
                Anti-Flag - thats youth
                Stick Figure Suicide - dred
moneen - the passing of america / the wrath of the donkey
counterfit - from finish to starting line
                H.I.M. - Wicked Games

h.i.m. is 'metal' , but also 'love metal.' think Emocore, or indie rock with a few more gibson SG's thrown in.

EDIT: only band i can add that you probably don't know, well at least i didn't till crvn once told me about it: Mahavishnu Orchestra. It's mostly jazz, bit blues and a bit rock/metal maybe. Nice music to listen to.

Here, I'm going to list punk bands that I find acceptable. I notice that a lot of people on these boards listen to punk bands, which is way cooler than listening to Disturbed, but they listen to shitty punk bands that I don't like at all. If you're one of those people, please check out these bands, even though I'm not going to bother to describe each one of them to you because I don't really listen to them much anymore: Lagwagon, NOFX, Strike Anywhere, Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, the second Strung Out album, The New Bomb Turks, Avail (preferably Dixie-era), Refused, Minor Threat, The Dead Kennedys, hmm, there's probably more, but start with those.

"Emo", aka Saves The Day's new stuff and stuff that sounds like it, and Dashboard-style shitty acoustic pop is going to die really soon. It's a dumb as shit trend that's no cooler than Limp Bizkit, and even though it still has roots in underground legitimate music, it's still a dumb as shit trend.

If you want some real emo buy either Mineral - "The Power of Failing" or Sunny Day Real Estate - "Diary"... song titles: Mineral: Slower, Parking Lot, SDRE: I don't remember any song titles.
Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Dead Milkmen, The Ramones, Black Flag, The Clash.

They are old school classics. Cept... maybe the Dead Milkmen.

                            Stiff Little Fingers :b

                            Anti-Flag

Normally I would close this but it's still relevant so no reason why not to. In fact, I might add my own two pennies worth:
