Assault Rifle Ban

Its not like you can waltz right into a gun shop, buy an M16 and a bucket of bullets or something all willy-nilly like. You still have to have a background check, and have proper ID, and all that stuff. The terrorists and the gangs who get a hold of those weapons go on the blackmarket and go underground to get them. The ban won't stop the blackmarkets and such.

The "assault weapon" ban is utter nonsense, and I'm glad it's gone away, and I hope it is never renewed. You have to understand that they aren't talking about machine guns, that's banned by the machine gun act of like.. 1931 I think is the date. "Assault weapons" under that act are defined as having 2 or more "cosmetic features" of military type rifles. James Brady can rot in hell, for all I care. He wasn't shot with an assault weapon, he was shot with a pistol, and he won't be happy unless every single gun is banned. Why? Because he was on the bad end of some crazy trying to kill Reagan. Note: Some Crazy. Not a rational individual.

I think if a person wants to own a rifle with a pistol grip, a folding stock, a 30 round magazine, a bayonet, and a flash hider, then go for it. It's not like they shoot bigger ammo, or shoot any faster. Rather than wasting time and money banning stupid crap like this, I mean come on.. a flash hider? I'd much rather see full background checks including checks for EPOs, that have the ability to deny/force a waiting period, for firearms.

Yeah, the "assault" rifles are actually [i]semi-automatic[i] weapons. they just look badass. Nothing changes.

The question is though, why allow them to purchase them if it is no help to them and more dangerous to others that they have it.

First of all, Hunting rifles are more powered than assault rifles so they are not more dangerous than what is already out there. Anyone could easily get a remmington 700, put a good scope on it along with a good sniper stock and you've got yourself a lethal .5 MOA sniper rifle. A setup like this would trump the Maryland sniper's setup easilly.

Second of all, thugs are too poor to own assault rifles. Assault rifles go for 2 grand and up, the really good ones going for much more than that. A street thug will normaly carry a 50 dollar POS handgun. Note the difference in price.

Thirdly, assault rifles are almost never used in crimes. This goes along with number 2.
