Why do you think asians are considered "Smart"?

I was on a subway the other day, and I saw a chinese man reading a book in chinese. (the symbols).. So I got to wondering.. why are they considered smart?
Lets get the facts down first:
Each symbol represents an IDEA of something, such as Heaven, Life, Destinty, etc.

Something like this as part of my idea:
Well maybe since they read these things like all the time, then their minds are much more open-minded to the different kind of things around them. (Compared to the english language, where "Box" means "Box"..) As in chinese, "Cube" means "Box".. "Cube" can be related to Math or Science.. which makes them think. And since they do this for EACH word, they think so much more.. I guess it's just part of their custom or something. They're constantly thinking. Their minds are opened up to so much more.

Give back some opinions or ideas of why you think asians are always considered smart

Because most of them are children coming because their father or mothers are professors at a nearby school or university.

And they are smart.

Look at most of the asians coming over to the states. Like Troll King said, not all asians are smart, god damn, there are billions of them in the world... but USUALLY the ones that come over here have a higher education as it is, and because of that, their children are better off. Now I don't say all, because if you look at asian imigrants of the west compared to the east, you'll see a large difference in class and "intelligence."

First off I think your reasoning is crazy. That said, in the typical asian family there is less emphasis on individualism and more emphasis on contributing and giving back to the family. This can result in the typical asian child being more concerned with receiving good grades and getting into a good college and making his family proud. So in my opinion the average asian child (In the US) studies a whole lot harder than the average child. They've got a good work ethic. That's been my experience at college too, most of my asian friends are much more willing to spend hours and hours studying and working on their schoolwork every day. Obviously anecdotal evidence like that is worthless, but I'm going to say it anyway.

I'm bastardizing a lot of psychology research that has been done in the whole nature vs nature argument here, but what I've said is more or less based on fairly well studied.. stuff.

The asian guys who work in the same factory I do are rock solid, great fucking guys who have an amazing work ethic. They're all 30 something and I walk around in plaid pants and red hair and we're all buddys, like I said they're great fucking guys.

Smart asians are just a stereotype. I have asian friends at college who are just average students. I'm not saying there aren't smart asian people (there was one in the news just a few days ago who got a perfect score on the SAT and ACT tests, its freakin' amazing). But alas. Just a stereotype, each race has their smart, average, and dumb people.

Personal experiences prove that there are dumb and smart asians in all parts of the world, which makes the reasons for these threads inane.

The only reason people might have misconceptions about Asians being smarter than other people is because they live in the US/Canada/Western Europe and there is a huge brain drain (especially to US).

Your schools may be trying to destroy racial stereotypes, but it seems Collegeboard has drilled in the stereotype that high SAT scores mean your smart.
