    Which one?

The "I'm bitching about the Electoral College system cause I don't know shit about what this country was founded on." or the "Let's stay on topic 'Offical' Electoral Discussion thread"?

i live in texas, i would vote for bush. Bush will win texas. I don't need to waste my time registering. Since I don't need to waste my time voting becuase my state is already decided, then I can complain how i want. As always the popular vote doesn't mean anything so I have no impetus to go out and miss work and vote. Also, I would be missing Overtime pay if I wasted my time voting.

I know you guys have this fantasy where every none voting person if they voted would vote Kerry. It's a fantasy, more than likely if all of the non-voters voted the election results would remain the same. You could do a statistical analysis of this and it should prove to actually have no accumulating affect on the outcome. Sorry to bust your bubbles.

          POWER TO INCUMBENCY!

By the way, I didn't vote either for the exact same reason. I didn't register here in Lubbock (even though 70%+ went for Bush) and I didn't want to drive 2 hours to cast my choice either direction for a county that consists largely of rich, old ranchers.

pv and I are actually just doing the American thing and not voting. All you others are nothing but a bunch of pinko Commy bastards.

There can't be a line during the whole day. If you go there like 5 minutes before the place closes and there's a line, they need to keep the place open until there is no line any more, right?
So you just go before it closes and place your vote and go home for a after-voting wank.

I don't think anyone has that fantasy, which is why people try to encourage voters in areas where their candidate is favored ie this forum favored kerry.

In general, younger people favor democrats, and younger people are also disillusioned and don't believe that their vote is worthwhile. The basic understanding in the Kerry camp was that Bush supporters would already be voting, so they needed to mobilize as many people as they could figuring that the better the turnout, the better chance Kerry had. You're right in that it didn't work that way because the bush camp also did a fantastic job of getting people fired up to go out in vote in republican counties.

Your statement isn't true because the people who do vote aren't a completely representative sample of the nations population. Thus using the sample of people who voted to predict how the entire population would vote if forced to vote isn't really statistically valid (which yes does show a flaw in the system in which our president becomes elected). Consider that older people vote more than younger people and older people are more likely republican while younger people are more likely democrats. Force everyone to vote and it's probably going to shift the polls slightly towards the democratic candidate since there are (probably) more democrats sitting home not voting then republicans.

For the record I didn't vote since I live in NY and Kerry was going to win anyway. I wanted to vote but I had pulled an allnighter on a CS project and was still working on it as the deadline was approaching and if I left to go stand in line for an hour I never would have finished on time. If I was in a state that was up in the air I would have voted. I then played halo til 3:00 a.m. after having not slept in 2 days.

As for Face, as you said you knew who would win your state so not voting isn't really a huge deal. The only argument is that they do collect statistics on the proportions that voted by age. The more young people that vote the more serious the candidates have to consider the issues of the young people. If you think that's important then you should have voted to show the candidates that they should be considering the voice of the young people because we can matter in the polls.

Plus there was more issues to vote on then just the presidential election.

Are you just repeating random rhetoric that you heard somewhere, or is there logic hidden anywhere in that statement? I've heard tons of people say that, and 0 of them have backed it up in any way.

I actually did end up voting, and, as predicted, it made absolutely no difference. Kerry lost North Carolina, lost the election, and we're fucked. If I hadn't voted, we'd be in the same scenerio. Alright, so I proved that voting made no difference for me. So where do I lose my right to complain? My right to free speech is practically all I have left as far as actually accomplishing anything in this country.

What I find funny is that everything I have heard about the elections, EVERYTHING, not only on this forum, but on the news etc. you would think 90% of america was pro-kerry, you heard so much anti-bush talk, and most of the bush supporters really just shut up on the big media etc. It was the kerry supporters who where the loudest people.
Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

It's not that the Bush supporters "just shut up on the big media etc", Gall. The thing is, Democrats/Kerry supporters/liberals are, by and large, younger Americans who are either college students, or at the very least, informed citizens. When you're informed on an issue, you're more inclined to voice your opinion. You didn't hear from Bush supporters because they are, by and large, ignorant. They don't pay attention to the issues. They don't use common sense. Come election day, they head to the polls and cast their vote blindly. Fucking lemmings, the lot of 'em.

I suppose I made it seem as though only young people are informed. That wasn't my intent. I only want to make the point that those who vote Democrat tend to be more informed, more inquisitive, more involved.

just like college students who blindly vote Kerry without knowing anything except the flash movies they've seen on the internet bashing Bush. I supported Kerry, but the ignorance goes both ways. Except the college kids don't bother going to the polls.

I made that post before your 2nd comment so it only now half applies
