L'Etoile is far from a typical roundabout. It is probably the world's busiest roundabout and the worst marked one too. One thing though, you'll be surprised how few accidents have occured there.

In Canada its freeways, main streets, and small streets.

Btw roundabouts here are small and manageable hills of concrete so no POSSIBLE accidents can occur. You guys make driving complicated.

I don't think roundabouts are good for that size of intersections: It's like saying "hey freeway ramps are way quicker and safer than intersections, why don't we put them in every little road turning into people's home yards?"

            My opinion:
            small roads: intersection
            quite small ones: roundabout
bigger roads: normal intersection with lights
big big roads: multi-level thingys, whatever they are called.

I like the bottom line of your signature, Kim. Some people I know in real life who play this game also think that 'roster' is 'rooster', no matter how much times I tell them or how much other people tell them. I tried to explain that a rooster is a male chicken but they won't listen

Research indicates that well-designed roundabouts can be safer and more efficient than conventional intersections. A December 2002 report by the Maryland Highway Administration indicates that 15 single-lane roundabouts have greatly improved intersection safety in that State. The analysis shows a 100 percent decrease in the fatal crash rate; a 60 percent decrease in the total crash rate; an 82 percent reduction in the injury crash rate; and a 27 percent reduction in the property damage-only accident rate. maybe in euroland you guys have a bunch of one lane roads. We don't have too many of them here. Almost all the roads are 3+lanes. All those roundabouts would waste a lot of space that could be used for commercial frontage. Also a cul-de-sac owns your roundabouts. All roads should end with a cul-de-sac.

Yeah well in the cities we still have the three lane roundabouts and it works incredibly well... Especially London where traffic is queud up but you're still constantly moving and not start stopping <_<
I'll admit London is badly designed but the roundabouts work brilliantly both in time saving and safety

Out of curiosity, is anyone here actually interested in the comparative benefits of different road infrastructures? I was assuming that this was just an international pissing contest, an excercise in mental dickery, but then it occurred to me that maybe one of you is actually passionate about street systems, which in turn excited me. Inside my head now, one of you -- wherever you are -- is thinking "Oh man, I've been waiting for someone to bring up roads for three years now. Long wait, to be sure, but maybe the tide is turning... maybe the public is finally beginning to respect and appreciate the role streets play in shaping the consensual social understanding of ourselves."

So which one of you is it? Out with you, stranger. I've seen what you've done here, and I'm beginning to understand. I think we need to talk.
