it's fiction but they are entirely civil war based and extremely interesting reads-gods and generals and the rest of the series. I think there are 3 but may be more. I read one of them for my History class in college and got the others becuase it was good. So if that will work. Otherwise, try your textbook. To all the virgins, Thanks for nothing

If you want Dimestore there are many novels in the late 1880s that depict what occurred in the settlement of the west. I can't remember the titles but there were also some books on American expansionism.5:royst> i was junior athlete of the year in my school! then i got a girlfriend

I would try A People's History of the United States: 1492-Present by Howard Zinn if you want a liberal, "too much of history is written by governments, corporations, and people in power" approach. Take some of it with a grain of salt, or read it as a companion to more conservative accounts, though.

The American Pagent is also entertaining, despite being a history book.5:royst> i was junior athlete of the year in my school! then i got a girlfriend

I'm currently reading Confederates in the Attic by Tony Horwitz. It's namely about him going around the South figuring out why people still give a shit about the Civil War. Entertaining read.Reclusion
