Best riff of the current decade. It seems to me that most new bands are all style and no substance, all these trendy New York art bands and the crack-addled bands who make up the 'London's Burning' scene haven't really got any trouser-dropping ass-pumping fantastic songs. The Strokes have a great riff in Reptilia but then they shat all over it with arty voice distortion and crappy guitars. My vote goes to Inspire by Cave In

so in other words you want to stimulate forum discussion by prompting people to basically post their favorite riffs, and then people will come in saying those riffs suck, and then it will turn into a big argument no one wants to read except the people arguing, so it will stay on top for a while, and then die a bit later?

Since Fandango moved it to ´90+ I'm just gonna mention 2 that came to my mind right away.
I really love the opening riff of Rollins Band's Volume 4, but it sucks that he starts to sing over it after first repeat, I could listen to it at least 30 more secs ez
The second one that I remembered, which could probably be classed as the top 10 heaviest doom riff, despite the band playing it cuz they're not an doom outfit, is the Soundgarden's 4th of july, it's just so good.

Current stuff, I loved the riff by Mastodon on Seabeast at the end of that songs, it's great.
