y was the swedish death toll/missing so high? compered to the UK which is still below 100.(might not still be below 100, but the information is coming in bits and bobs)

There might be a little bit of truth to the idea that Americans don't care as much what happens outside of america, but you should also probably look at the big picture. The WTC bombing wasn't a single event, it was the beginning of something. If an earthquake had taken it down, it woudln't have gotten the worlds' attention the way that it did. It began a time of uncertaintly for a large portion of the globe, if not everyone. If it's death tolls that impress you, add the couple thousand from the WTC to the war in afghanistan to the war in Iraq.

Also consider that the newspaper here 2 days ago said that there were 14,000 dead. I never buy a paper, but I bought that one because I coudln't believe it. Logging on right now is the first I ever heard of the possiblility of 100k dead, I didn't watch any news yesterday or log on to a computer.

I don't think people understood just how serious this was.

I think the idea of it be during the Holiday season most of americans havent really sat down read the newspaper, news or the internet since most of us are on vacation, visiting familys and doing the holiday cheer. I know like BZ I saw on the news about 14k died, but this 100k in my daily local newspaper said I've been searching on the internet all day on this disasterous event. I think we should keep to the big issue and not make this another America vs the world.

Bush established a pact along with indonesie and some other countries, it's not really a pact its some kind of organisation thats gonna take of what needs to be done, all the way until everything is build up again.. If that made any sense.

ok, I heard on the news this was also terrible for the envirement, it will take ALOT of years before all the riffs and mangrove forest will be restorted, and allot of death fish have washed up too.

And we, in the netherlands, are gonna start a big tv action next week, 6 jan. It's gonna air on 3 stations at the same time, this happened a couple of times before last time over 54 million was raised.
( the couple of times before meaning different stations working together and all airing the same thing at the same time).
