In Championship Manager it used the terminology of starlet
like in the news it would say
Coventry have signed young Irish Starlet Robbie Keane from Wolves for £5 million etc...
i think starlet is unisex and is just reffering to a young star or not quite a star yet but almost. In the game above it was used to denote a player who could be mixing it with the best players if their career went in the right direction.
It is a word that you might read in a paper or type on a forum :P but not realy say in everyday langage , even when talking about football. In my world,
I am King

Come on my countrymen
Come on and take a stand
Don’t let ‘em take away your land
