Although ranking 24th is pretty bad, it is not like we are some gun-slinging society where you take your life in your hands if you step outside.

There is no western european country in there, no Australia, no Canada, besides America would be way higher up the ladder when you would calculate everything to how many people actually die. And Most of those countries are poor country, lots also have a history with dictators, guerilla warfare, civil wars, terrorist (Countries around Russia). America is supposed to be a civilized, highly advanced supa dupa country. US doesn't get compared to country's like columbia, Ukraine, Mexico. US get compared to countries like Canada, Australia, England. America is a very rich country, almost all those countries on there are very poor. And Yes Russia is poor, maybe not when looked at national income and stuff, but that's like 5% of Russia and only the western part, for the rest Russia is fucking Poor.

Because America has such a differential gap in the poor and the rich, you get a lot of middle class men, and a lot of poor socioeconomic ppl who react with other poor people. The result is a lot of poor ppl fighting to get rich. When ure desperate to get rich, and have nothing really to live for, u'll do desperate things, such as shoot another man and steal his money. I agree, we have a problem with gun control, but I don't think it's because we're evil capitalist pigs, we just want to become evil capitalist pigs so bad that we'll kill for it.

Well of course his opinion is going to be fucking biased. Otherwise it wouldn't be his opinion. He believes whole heartedly in what he's preaching thus, he preaches it. Same reason why churches are biased about certain things.

I also saw something like, 'His movies only show one side'.

Once again, if the point of said documentary was to bestow some sort of opinion or belief upon you, he's not going to go and argue both sides of the topic. That's just idiocy.


Eph. 11,000 gun deaths per year, is way too much. Honestly don't compare it to other countries. That's not the issue. Not like 'WELL THEY'RE JUST AS BAD OR WORSE'. We're not talking about the other countries right now. US really needs to clean up it's gun laws, and figure out a way to prevent so many deaths occuring. It's insane.

I wasn't trying to defend gun ownership, nor was I implying that there isn’t a lot of guns in the USA. I do think that many people who live outside of the USA think that you take your life in your hands by walking down the street here. This simply isn’t the case.

I’ll be the first to admit that gun ownership in the USA is very high. I feel it probably due to the history and heritage of the country, not because Americans have some violence gene or because of something in the water. I think that many Americans equate gun ownership with individual rights and the Constitutional ‘check and balance’. This ‘check and balance’ is supposed to be there to offset the possibility of a military coup by giving potential empowerment to local citizenry. I don’t buy into this because the type of weapons one would really need to offset our military are illegal to own.
The second commonly heard defense of gun ownership is for protection of one’s family. I don’t buy into this either. Firstly, statistics show that you are 44 TIMES more likely to shoot a family member then an intruder. Secondly, when you ask the people who use this as a reason to own a gun if they have spent any money on security systems or other ways to protect their family, the answer always comes back as ‘no’.
So, as you can see, I do not support the amount of guns in this country and wish we had much fewer. But I also have walked around in this country for 48 years and never had a gun pulled on me. This isn’t the ol’ wild West where everyone is slinging guns. The stupid media always take the approach “if it bleeds, it leads” so many people blindly believe that 9 out of 10 people walking down the street are packing. In fact, here in the USA, the gun violence rate has dropped steadily for the last 20 years. But when the media reports that kind of stuff, people turn the channel to something else.

And this is the same for M. Moore stuff. His movie wouldn't sell if it wasn't controversial. He wouldn’t have been able to raise his speaking fees from $750 two years ago to the $35,000 he gets today. How can people not understand that when they pay to go see his movie, they are paying money to support someone who is laughing all the way to the bank? Laughing out of one side of his millionaire mouth, while acting like he is the champion of the poor common man? My opinion is that those who go see his movies are those who are looking for reinforcement in their beliefs, which is fine. But accept it for what it is, a way for M. Moore to make you feel better while he runs off to the bank with your money.

No, but we have two big factors. One is the huge differential between the rich and the poor. With that huge gap (and help from the constitution giving us the right to bear arms) people become desperate to do whatever they can to become rich. The second is the American Dream, Gatsby style. Here in America, everyone is trying to find a way to get rich, no matter what it takes. For some, killing and dealing, which usually leads to killing, are the only way to get rich. I'm not sayin there arent poor people around the world, but the way that america is set up as far as other countries are, the poor are more concerned about making it rich than surviving. In America, we have affordable housing, food banks, food stamps, welfare, and other programs designed to help the poor. In other countries, being poor means starving to death. Because of this reason, Americans become more concerned about getting rich, because they take advantage of the system, and realize that there will always be food to fall back on.
