I don't understand the fascination with LOTR. It's a good story, but by the time the third movie came out.. I had to see it because I already invested so much time in the first two, but really I was glad it was over.
I'd probably like the movies better if they condensed it into 2 movies, or maybe if they made all 3 movies a little shorter.
Point is.. the movies are painful enough, no way I want to sit and read one of those books.http://www.trenchwars.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15100 - Gallileo's racist thread

was just browsing amazon and came across this guy Carlton Mellick III. Anyone ever read any of his books?
This is from the description of his book Satan Burger:
"God hates you. All of you. He closed the gates of Heaven and wants you to rot on Earth forever. Not only that, he is repossesing your souls and feeding them to a large vagina-like machine called the Walm - an interdimensional doorway that brings His New Children into the world. He loves these new children, but He doesn't love you. They are more interesting than you. They are beautiful, psychotic, magical, sex-crazed, and deadly. They are turning your cities into apocalyptic chaos, and there's nothing you can do about it"
Makes me want to read it.
Some of his other titles include: Razor Wire Pubic Hair, The Baby Jesus Butt plug, and Electric Jesus Corpse.http://www.trenchwars.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15100 - Gallileo's racist thread

It's been mentioned a couple of times, but I'll add it again. Chuck Palahniuk. Brilliant author; Lullaby and Choke are fantastic reads. If you are into scifi I recommend Neuromancer by William Gibson, if you havn't already read that. Uhh I know you wont even consider this, but R.A. Salvatore is superb. Do not hate on D&D.()_()

A couple of people have mentioned "A wheel of time" by Robert Jordan. It's not bad, well until the last couple books, but the "A song of Fire and Ice" series (currently 3 books, he's working on the 4th) by George R. R. Martin is much better. The first book is called "A Game of Thrones". Everyone I know who has read both series agrees with me on this. It's fantasy, but trust me it's really good.
Verthanthi mentioned the preacher graphic novel. I just read through that series two weeks ago when I was at a friends house for the weekend. Once you start you can't put them down, I think you'd like it. My problem with graphic novels though is they are too short for the amount they cost.

I think everyone should read Joseph Heller's Catch 22, it's superb. The "sequel" Closing Time is nice aswell. But to me he tried to write it too much like Catch 22 and it doesn't reach the same level of craziness/funniness and was even a bit of a drag at times.. I enjoyed Slaugherhouse 5 a lot aswell.
