  • CD Scratches.

What can I do to eliminate or nuetralize the skipping that my music CD makes when it has some nasty scratches on it?

If you have nothing better to use, toothpaste really does work. I had an unreadable CD that was screwed because of a deep scratch. I put some regular white toothpaste along the scratch and rubbed it into the scratch with a cotton cloth. I just kept buffing it and then I put a little bit of water on the clotch and wiped off the excess toothpaste. It fixed the CD. It's probably not a good permanent solution but it worked. There's probably some retail product out there that does the same kind of thing.

basically what stab did was sand his cd. cds store the information on the metal . the scratches generally are made in the plastic or glass (im not sure what it is) covering. if u can find some1 with a cd resourfacer (theyre not that expensice) it will sand the cd's glass smooth again.

Resurfaces most damaged CD's through a sanding-like process, like iKillBurger said. Runs about $30-40.

This is quite rare CD. I need a really fool-proof method. Of course I have it on my computer, but I would like to be able to show (and play) the actual CD.

(Its a limited edition =w= EP called the Lion and the Witch.)

heres something called dskin. its a protective covering that fits over your disc and you dont have to take it off to play it. http://www.d-skin.com/home.html

Yeah products like the above are useful to prevent scratches.

But I don't think it will help a CD that's already scratched.

dskin bites. it's just a cover and doesn't work well with slot loading players- every car player out there. It increases the thickness of the edge of the CD where it grabs on.

I use the same thing, works great. The manual one costs about 30 dollars at Wal-Mart. Just put a spray on it, turn the wheel about 75 times, and repeat once. Take out, use the given cloth to dry it, and another given cloth to buff it. Works great. As long as you didn't make it through the plastic coating and hit the data surface.

As long as the CD doesn't have deep scratches (ones that actually hit the data as PO said), yeah, it works like a charm. It does leave a funny pattern on the CD surface, but it doesn't affect playback at all. Best $30 I ever spent.

Sometimes you can find one of those scratch remover tools at Best Buy for half price. I tried it at an instore promo once, works like a charm.
