A Few Portraits of Her

She always wears her hair in a ponytail.
"I like it that way," she says.
"It makes me look younger."
I like it that way too,
Though it makes me feel older.

She wears a baseball cap low on her head,
Her eyes kept in perpetual shadow.
When she looks up at me,
And she must look up
For I stand a foot taller than her,
Only then does the shadow recede
And I see her clear brown eyes.
I like when she looks up at me.

She has a tiny mouth.
And large teeth.

She has a mole on her jaw just left of her chin.
She calls it a beauty mark.
I don't argue with her.

She smells of strawberries freshly picked,
Her skin feels smooth as cream pure as ivory,
Her hair looks like honey flowing smooth and thick and
Her voice sounds sweet as nectar.
How she tastes, however, is just between us.

She is quite small. Her head barely reaches my shoulder. Her wrist is
half the size of mine. Her hand is thin and delicate; mine is thick and
calloused. When we walk together, her head rests against my upper
arm, her forearm coils around mine, and my hand engulfs hers wholly.
She is quite small.
We like it that way.

She does have to walk a bit faster to keep up though.
