Courtney and I went and saw this video production last night about the advent of lawsuits over sampling (two film producers from UI made the film, called Copyright Criminals). It was a whole slew of interviews with hip hop artists, and included Sage Francis, Eyedea, Saul Williams, Posdanous, and others. Was really quite cool.

EDIT: Oh, there was also this live video production piece by two guys from Amsterdam called "The Tape-beatles". For being heady, semi-pretentous crap, it was also pretty cool. Way too long, though.

Don't confuse hip-hop with rap... Rap is the violent shit artists you hear on mtv and whatnot who sound like the retarded cousins of techno and hip-hop.
But hip-hop has a decent beat, normally breakbeat with nice turntableism and samples.

Screw the "real" artists, it's all about the DJs...
