Canada needs rules like brazil does. Theres always some sort of race bashing going.... So much for being a multicultural country. I think its because soccer started out being a sport for caucasians. In the recent years lots of "other" races started playing soccer, and for those people who think soccer is a white sport it overwhelmes them. Excuse the spelling.

Didn't want to start a new topic for this:

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish rights group cried foul over advertisements for a liquorice ice-cream, saying the posters for "Nogger Black" were racist.

Not only could the name of the ice-cream bar made by GB Glace cause offence, but the posters, with graffiti-style text, lampooned black culture, the Center Against Racism said.

"The GB Glace company may not be racist, but the ads they use give new life to racist stereotypes," the campaigning group said in a statement.

GB Glace, a part of Anglo-Dutch group Unilever, said it did not believe the ice-cream, or its advertising, was racist. However, it was considering withdrawing another advertising campaign due in May.

"Even if the word 'black' in the logo is inspired by graffiti, we don't see anything wrong with that, nor about alluding to black culture or hip-hop," GB Glace spokeswoman Petronella Warg said.

"We certainly had no intention that the name, 'Nogger', would be associated with any negative word."

A chocolate version of the Nogger ice cream, with a nougat center, has been on sale in Sweden for decades.

During the period of colonization in the Columbean-era, slavery was a big part of establishing systems of agriculture, and building communities. The Indians who survived the diseases the Euros brought weren't too hip on becoming enslaved and this led to much social tension, as well as outright warfare.

Eventually the Catholic Church decided to allow the Euros to marry the Natives, as a way to both create peace between the two cultures, and through an increased birthrate, create more stable, powerful, and widespread Catholic communities by increased population through childbirth. However, it was still forbidden to marry the black slaves.

Obviously, racism still persists in America, but it's felt even moreso in Latin America. Racism toward both the surviving native Indians, and Blacks as well. I didn't realize it was so bad they decided to legislate against it in Brazil, that's kind of news to me. I wonder if there are other countries like that? Maybe schope knows.
You're correct on a very superficial level (which isn't an insult it's just all you can accomplish in 5-7 sentences about a subject this large). The racism that exists isn't derived from an Indian versus Black versus European clash. It's a mixture. Just because the Catholic church didn't condone interracial marriages doesn't mean there wasn't interracial breeding. The problem in Latin America has been the government sponsored racism that still exists (formally and informally) in many countries today.

This racism is known as the Caste system. I'm sure all of you have heard about it and if you haven't the system generally goes as follows but with perhaps a few other labels added in or changed. From bottom of the socio-economic totem pole to the top: Zambos (mix of Indian and African descent), Mestizos (European and Indian descent), Mulattos (mixed of European and African descent), Creoles (of European descent only but born in the New World), and Peninsulares (born in mainland Europe).

Many of the land laws and the informal economic gaps exist along racial lines which makes racism still haunt Latin America even in the 21st century. Indians still get the short end of the stick in most cases in Latin America. Sort of funny how Schope calls everyone by the N-word when, in his country, there are much worse racist slang words. Oh well, guess that's what the internet will do to people.

Isn't a little over the top to be arrested for making racist comments though? I don't know.

I'm talking about having a law against making racist comments. I assume most places don't have such a law.

Yea, but they have had almost 200 years of political, religious, and social tension between them to explain their divisions.

That's not even mentioning their ethnic differences, one coming from mostly white European ancestry, and the other coming from a mix of Spanish and Indian ancestry. It's not just outright racial bigotry, it's much deeper.
