Excluding gays and women from prominent positions in the church is nothing more than thousands of years of bigotry and male domination. Over the years, the church actually has changed. So out the window goes the idea that the Papacy shouldn't change, or that the word of the bible is infallible. Slavery at one point was accepted and justified through the church, however, now it's not, for example.

I'm not sure how my feelings on the Catholic Church relates to our presidency. If you mean, why am I not upset that America has never had a female or gay president, that's something I'd be happy to address if this thread was about gays or women being president.

Regardless, I think bigotry and subjugation based on gender, race, or sexual orientation is wrong, whether it be in an American political institution or Catholic religious institution. If we truly believe in the values of an egalitarian society, the exclusion of anyone based on prejudice is nothing more than a form of tyranny.

I'm of the opinion that while its true that some believe in a truly egalitarian society, others simply use it as a convenient way of dominating others, while other groups simply use it as an enemy, as such a thing (giving rights to the poor and oppressed) takes rights away from them in their eyes. While yet more others are simply bigots who can't get facts into their thick skulls, or are smart but have been raised by thick skulled bigots.
While I believe that a free society is right and proper and that people should not be exluded (eg from a job, unless they are actually unsuited for it), I know that in many if not all countries and societys around the world this is not the case. I'd like to move to the moon and start my own country, but I'm afraid of being followed by 'stupid people' (in the words of Mycroft Holmes, aka Mike, aka Adam Selene)

The Ratzinger dude was in the Hitler Youth Draft, so what? It was mandatory to join the Hitler Youth Draft in Germany, and Austria...he had no choice for Gods sake, yet some dumbasses who try to be cool and badass by insulting people with power (cut) are just being plain ignorant. The draft was basically a brainwash, but Benedict actually left it midway and saw through it all. He isn't Hitler if he use to be in the Hitler youth draft, IT WAS FUCKING MANDATORY, would you want your head chopped off rather then joining Hitlers Youth Draft? Shut the fuck up already and pointing out his past, it was not his fault at all. Would you like your childhood being pointed at and made fun of? I think not.

That didn't make much sense ... Nobody HAS to join the Hitler Jugend. But as we all know lots of young people did join them because that was kind of a way to show ur "an adult" and ur cool. People who actually had faith in Hitler had respect for you. People might be looking down on those who didn't join it. But ... if that guy didn't join them, he would have showed that he had his own beliefs and that he isn't afraid of standing up for his belief. Now, with joining the Hitler Jugend he just showed that he has no real own opinion, he followed the rest and so he actually believed in Hitler aswell.
He did leave it, but only just before the war ended. And you too know that it wasn't very hard to see the end coming up. So again it shows that he couldn't stand up (again) for his own belief, as he probably had been trying to escape from the Americans. Lots of Germans left the army and so because they were too afraid of getting punished for their acts. That's just weak.

So your point that he HAD to join them because otherwise he would get killed is just nonsense.

Your point about "not pointing at his past" is dumb too. What if I murdered someone a few yrs ago ... does that make me an innocent guy now ? Or would you still think of me as a murderer? I bet you would.
