  • Some local media magazines have done interviews with the Arcade Fire, saying how they are the biggest thing that has spread over the internet, and that it is Canada's pride in indy.

    Interesting read.

    • You can't really seperate "indie" from "rap" because there's also "indie rap". You're just specifically talking about "indie rock"

            • 1. You can say whatever you want about Pearl Jam "falling" musically, but Eddie Vedder is and always has been an excellent storyteller with his lyrics, drawing parallels from the band Pearl Jam was molded after, The Who. As their albums have progressed his lyrics have lost some of their intensity, yeah, but another thing to keep in mind is that ever since Yield he has only wrote the lyrics for a handful of songs on each subsequent album. You can name almost any song from Ten-Yield and I can tell what it's about.

              2. Slipknot isn't even Slipknot anymore. They have 3 of the original 9 members, not even including the lead singer. Say whatever you want, I liked some of the songs on the Subliminal Verses album. What they did didn't appeal to many people, but they did it well.

              3. I'm not afraid to like mainstream music and you shouldn't be either. It's catchy, and get this...that's why it's mainstream! No shame in enjoying it as much as other, lesser-known music.

              4. I believe that there is "good" music and "entertaining" music. "Good" music is original or rich in lyrical content. Entertaining music is "Cheap Sunglasses" by ZZ Top or pretty much any Snoop Dogg song.

              5. I wrote this entire post listening to Foreigner's "Cold as Ice" on repeat.

              edit:
              6. The new Daft Punk album was recorded in 19 days which is a huge part of why it isn't very good...at all.

              7. Right now the worst song of the entire 2000's decade is that "Hollaback Girl" song by Gwen Stefani.

I won't front on the fact that they do it well, but slamming out 64th notes on your bass drum doesn't jive with me. Same with beating on kegs (unless you're wasted, it's 3 AM, and you're at a black tie sorority party). One of the funniest things I've ever seen was after a show that my band played with Slipknot in Des Moines (this was about 6 years ago), where Shawn Chrahahahan (or whatever the crap his name is) tried to look cool and peel out of the club's parking lot--only to slam into an old Monte Carlo driving down the adjoining street. The smashed car was driven by one of the biggest black dudes I've ever seen... and he was not happy. I've never seen someone come so close to crying. Absolutely hilarious.

A-greed. If you like it, listen to it.

                      • I didn't say that I personally thought Chris Cornell sold out when he made Audioslave - I was just saying that most people would believe that before they believe someone like Eddie Vedder sold out. Then I pointed out that I personally did not like Audioslave. Difference in opinion.

                        • Zack De La Rocha was helping mainstream hip-hop artists produce records after Rage, I don't think audioslave sold out I think they suck.

On Binaural and Riot Act, Eddie Vedder wrote 3-5 songs on each album. The rest were written by various members of the band.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Vedder's lyrics are pretty good and, like you said, he's one of the best storytellers - second only to Bob Dylan in my opinion. Maybe that explains why Riot Act is probably one of my least favourite Pearl Jam albums. Binaural was pretty good though.
