Football Sponsership WAAAAY out of control?

Yes in my opinion the Germans have way overstopped the mark in terms of football sponsership, then they went back to the mark and pissed on it a little and laughed "We don't care for your civil liberties, wear Adidas football boots or DIE!"

I don't know its probably not just the germans and i'm sure alot of other contries do this sort of thing too (i remember Robert Pires had some tiff with france over a simalar thing). But i.m.o. a squad should be picked on quality alone and the player should be allowed to wear whatever boot they like which they are used to and feel comfortable in to allow the best performance.

If it were up to me i'd ban personal sponserships and international sponserships that force a player to wear only that brand. Also i would make the professional boots and gloves be unmarked/unbranded. Though i know those slimy marketing bastards would use this to their advantage and add a new "fin" or something to a boot so you could recognise it. So i'd first round them all up and shoot them OR set up a panel (of nuns-every panel should be nuns or monks as they are less likely to take bribes) that decided if a feature had any merit in making the boot better (nuns are also crack scientists) or was merely to make the boot stand out.

I'm sure they can, but it's more a matter of which boots they prefer. If you've been playing in Nike boots all your life, you're not going to want to switch to Adidas boots. All boots have a different feel, some are designed to feel like your playing with near bare feet, some are the opposite.

After a little thought, this is a complete farce, I really can't believe it.

The Fiver's always had a soft spot for Jurgen Klinsmann. After all,
what self-respecting Guardianista pinko-liberal wouldn't admire a man
who drives a battered cobalt-blue 1967 Beetle, votes for the Green
Party and used to hum a left-wing ditty from the 1960s, Alle Menschen
werden Bruder (All People Will Be Brothers), instead of the national
anthem? So it comes as a shock to report that Klinsmann, now coach of
Germany, has warned his squad that if they don't wear adidas boots
they will be banned from next year's World Cup!

"There won't be any Germany players with any other boot than adidas,"
arch-capitalist dog Klinsmann thundered to Germany's Sport Bild,
fixing dangerous free-thinkers like Arsenal's Jens Lehmann,
Liverpool's Dietmar Hamann (who both accept the Nike nickel) and
Aston Villa's Thomas Hitlzsperger (who prefers Puma), plus six
German-based renegades, with a beady stare. "If they don't accept the
terms, they won't come with us. Ha Ha Ha Ha!"

OK, so we made that last bit up. But it's not the first time the
German FA have got heavy with their players - last October, Lehmann
was told to wear adidas gloves or risk losing his chance of sitting
on the bench during Germany 2006 - and this latest diktat has some
players muttering darkly about seeing their solicitors. Not that
Klinsmann is bothered. "If any player believes he has to take legal
action so that he can play in his own brand, well he can't sue to
play for us," he gruffed, completing his metamorphosis into Lothar
Matthaus.

They are funny and its hard to take offense since they slate everyone.


yeah i agree with Ewan, but also its the principal of the thing. You should be picking your the players best able to represent your country and do well, not the ones who ware the right boots.
