I'm glad you have The Arcade Fire there.

    Foo Fighters - Breakout would make a good addition;

Happy Mondays makes for some great party music, their Greatest Hits album wouldn't go a miss.

P.S. You were born 6 days before me! amazing.

Good call, I'll have to find Kinky Afro and Step Up (or is it Step On?), and I'm considering getting rid of Arcade Fire, I doubt people will appreciate the screaming over the singing

                I'd add:

bloc party - Pioneers (I'm going to go see them tonight, hope they play this)
joy division - they walked in lines
                radiohead - optimistic

                if you're into 80s stuff:
                blondy - heart of glass
some random cover of a david bowie song

dont know how well this would go over but..
DFA - blood on our hands
                Mars Volta - Inertiatic ESP
SIGNATURE PROTEST: KEEP THE SHORT FFS

Edit: I forgot to mention its a beach party, so stuff like Modest Mouse - Float On and The Zutons - Havana Gang Bang will definately get a play

good music if everyone is going to take lots of vicoden at the party

honestly, most party music isn't really music that's
                    A. Good
                    B. Stuff you'd normally listen to

i have yet to meet more than about 2 women that are truly interested in my indie music tastes once they're wasted. all they want to do is dance and be lushes, and the only music that caters to that is either party-rap or mainstream energy-rock. sorry

you could save a couple of your lesser-known favorites that your friends (MATES) would recognize, but if you're looking to socialize with snatch, pass on most of it.

drunk people have more fun if they recognize what they're listening to, so i'd suggest dumbing down your musical intelligence for the night

edit: or cheesy 80's/early 90's throwback classics. they love that too

Might consider adding in some Pixies. Lots of stuff good for parties. Lots of great stuff off Surfer Rosa and Doolittle.

Also might want to check out:
                      Supergrass: Caught by the Fuzz
                      Supergrass: Kiss of Life

I'll be taken at the party so I'm not looking to impress anyone (which is a relief). I had your second point in mind when making the list, 75% of the stuff on the list has had quite a lot of airplay on British radio

Right on, going with that plan will probably be the best course of action then.

I think living in the Portland area has slanted my view on things. I know alot of people who say stupid things like "I used to like modest mouse but now they're on MTV ". You know, girls who wear berets who have a "the Addicts" (hi zeus) patch on their hemp messenger bag? But while we're at it, hendrix isn't really danceable, either.

EDIT: just don't play any coldplay
