On T.V. here there are ads trying to get us to recycle more becuase we are not going to meet EU requirements on our rubbish landfills etc... To get the EU mark for beaches they have too have clean water and this will be 20x more pure shortly and the EU has requirements on greenhouse gass emissions.
These are all very good policies and a lot of countries would be laxer if the EU wasn't there to fine us etc if we fell behind.
I don't know why everyone thinks it is so evil? Sure it has to much bureaucracy but so do most governments and it has a harder job trying to get resolutions with 12-15 different countries governments agree on.
Yeah in a previous post on this thread i had already touched on that

I'm pro europe and have seen vast amounts of EU money pumped into Northern Ireland since the peace process, it has helped alot
But northern Ireland is part of the UK and one off the poorest regions also.
There is also lot of different factors into why Ireland has recieved so much Aid and it has had an overhual of its economy in the last 20 years or so which is the time period of the 34 billion your site shows. And that money has helped tranform it into one of the poorest regions to a strong economy and indeed even your site says it is due to become a net contributer shortly.
But the good i mention wasn't anything to do with that at all but to do with their environmental policies and i really don't see a problem with richer states helping out the poorer ones in the EU.
