  • What's your summer reading list like?

Inspired by Zemyla's thread about the 10 most "dangerous" books, I was wondering what (if any) books you guys have planned to read.

So far, I've read: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and I've started Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.

Next on the list is The Davinci Code, re-read The Art of War, and finish a book on the history of Sacramento: Indominable City. Hopefully, I'll get through those in about 4-6 weeks.

I'd love some suggestions on reading material if you guys have some. I would like to read something philosophical, and as economical as possible, since I would like to finish it within a week or two.

Ender's Game is a good book ... my fav actually. The whole series is decent ... Ender's Shadow is excellent as well.

I'm planning on reading some William Gibson books ... and maybe take a crack at the Baroque Cycle series.

Yea, I think I saw Sarah Vowell on the Daily Show plugging her book. I've been a fan of her stuff on NPR, but I haven't read any of her work yet. I think I might check that out. Isn't it a historical account of President Garfield, or something?

Things Fall Apart is a kinda weird story. The Davinci Code is a great book. After you finish reading it, I strongly suggest Angels and Demons. If you want a good short read, read Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor (it's a nobel prize winner).
              this is a dated signature

I recently finished the Icewind Dale trilogy, the first book has a few certain things that are similar to LOTR:TT, but nothing huge. I liked it, and I'm currently on the second book of the Hunter's Blades trilogy, just to finish up the Drizzt series. I didn't know that there are a couple of trilogies in between these 2 sets, but I don't really want to read 9 other books or so involving the characters so I'm just going to end it with these. You also can't go wrong with the first three Dragonlance Books. They are very good, I can't say the same about the others.

The Da Vinci code is a good book, I haven't read angels and demons although I don't know if I really want to. I'm not that big into mysteries. I still need to check out Ender's game and although I've already seen the movie, I hear the episode 3 novel is much more kickass than it's counterpart. For any Star Wars nuts I suggest :

-Star Wars Republic Commando : Hard Contact

-Star Wars Medstar Series (Jedi Healer is the first book, Battle Surgeons is the second)

                - I, Jedi

                - Rogue Squadron (X-wing) series.

Micheal A. Stackpole is a good choice when Star Wars is concerned. I'm a sci-fi/ fantasy nut, so if you want any more suggestions in those areas, just let me know.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

This summer I'll probably be reading some Pratchett books or maybe another Dan Brown book, Da Vinci code was...entertaining, if you keep an open mind.

Dunno if I'm allowed to post this link ... but here it is ...

                    ... google the following 'fictionbook'

I have a feeling that a few of you will like a book called "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman (sp?).

Agreed. We read that in English class year and it was the only book that some people read all year. As for me this summer, I have buttloads of reading to do for English class next year, To Kill a Mockingbird, Hamlet, Jane Eyre, you know, the classics.

You'll probably enjoy TKAM and Hamlet. Jane Eyre is like stabbing your eyes out with dull knives.
