So, last night, my girlfriend broke up with me. Now don't type "Oh nerds have girlfriends?" or "She must have been ugly" cause this is a totally serious thread. Well anyways, I broke up with her. I think it was because I got too nervous around her, so I didn't move fast enough. At first, I was a mess, but after talking to her it's gotten better. I really thought she was the one and I never saw the break up coming. I thought we'd be together forever (or at least until high school ended). But apparantly, I was wrong. She's totally awesome and REALLY HOT (she was homecoming queen) but I guess it didn't work out. I was thinking of what to do next. We both agreed that we shouldn't stop being friends after this. I thought of the possibility that after summer, we might get back together again. Here's where I'm confused. According to some people (such as http://www.retrievealover.com/yourspecialebook.pdf), you should cut off all communication so that the ex develops a longing for you. What would you do? I thought that being friends and continuing talking was a good idea. I was just wondering how to get back with an ex. Do I see other girls or do I give myself a break? How do I deal with it if she starts seeing other guys? I'm so confused.

I'm no love expert but you're young and you'll have lots of other girls until you find the 'right one' (if you're lucky), so don't worry about it, you'll live and in time someone better will come along.

I broke up with my gf two weeks ago. We were together for 2 years and 4 months. Great girl, but not the girl to spend the rest of your (well, my actually) life with. It's hard to end a relationship, certainly after such a "long" time. But if the love is gone, don't wait for it to come back, coz it won't. I was sick for 2 days, but then I got over it and hey...there's a new girl waiting for me

Hmm something similar happened to me when my boyfriend and I broke up a month or so ago. We're still really good friends though. I mean, we were friends for 2 or 3 years before we started dating, so breaking up couldn't even wreck that. I would suggest staying good friends, because distancing yourself could start problems, like she might move on to someone else.

the first thing you learn through maturity is that girls will bring the death of mankind.

you're not going to get back together. don't even try. it's over. accepting that will lower the amount of time you spend in your underwear eating chicken noodle soup. it'll also help you still stay friends. unless you can throw out any sexual feelings to this girl, being her "friend" is going to drive you absolutely crazy. if you can do that and stay friends, that would be awesome, but not many people can so good luck.

obviously the faster you get with another girl, the better; even if shes a ho or something.

you'll be really uncomfortable when she starts seeing other guys (unless you get over her), and theres no way around that, so get used to it. just keep the feelings bottled up deep inside you, or you'll look like an asshole and no one will ever like you.

Two things you'll learn from this thread.

1. No one answer from a person's older situation will ever apply to you and work like they said it would.
2. Nobody will ever know what the fuck is going on, besides you.

Just have patience, keep open to EVERYTHING that comes across to you. Don't go off on a 'rebound', could score you meaningless sex, but nothing meaningful. And don't make my mistake of wishing and going "what if" if she ever finds another boyfriend. I'll just lead you down a path to "the dark side" if you will.

And if you follow the first two things in this post, then you'll know to even use my words with caution.
