Of course the game costs, and you get what you want from a MMORPG. I don't say that WoW is the best MMO out there, but it sure is a good one. While GW on the other hand is technically "free", and basically uses instances for every mission etc, though not in towns. But in towns there are districts, so it means that every town is a server with many rooms. So you won't find the same people on dis 1 if you go to dis 2.
The good thing about GW is that its more PVP based then rather having a good PvE experience. Okey, I don't say that the PvE sucks in GW, its quite good actually. The level cap in GW is 20, many say its too small, but its actually quite good. Every class is well balanced, they have their strong and weak sides. And it all comes down to skill when you PvP, since you have a large number of spells and skills to choose from. While in WoW, if a lvl 30 meets a lvl 35-40 the lvl 30 will most likely die. I don't say that you don't need skill in WoW, I know myself kicked a lvl 60 rogue with my lvl 53 rogue. But, in large scale battle there isn't alot of skill required, if you compare it to GW.
In short:
GW is a good game, its free and that means you won't have this burdon on your shoulders saying that you must play since you pay. As I said you will have alot of spells and skills to choose from to make your character unique, and there is no-one given pattern of skills and spells that will wtfownedthxbai your enemy. You alone cannot beat a group of 8 players. More teambased PvP.
I remember this once with my guild, when had a guildbattle, its was so intense that we keept on fighting for more the a hour. It was just crazy.. I thought we would have lost in the begining, actually we all did, but we got it through, slowly. So even if you have a good opponent to fight, you can overcome them with a better tactics.
I don't think you can get bored playing GW, since you can always make a new character, different of your other. Like if you have a Elementalist/mesmer, you could just do a Necromancer/monk (very common setup). Even if you will play the missions again, the gameplay will be different, and you will be playing with new people. Also finding a group should be as hard as in other MMO, though GW is considered to be a COrpg (read the FAQ at www.guildwars.com) Since when you get through a mission, you will come to a meeting place for the next mission. Where there will be districts to choose from, meaning that finding a group will be a easy.
The graphics in the game is awesome, the people there is quite nice too, alot different then in SS. Of course this is because not everyone playing the game is 12-18.
Why did I quote Due's WoW > GW. Well tbh, you can't compare the games, each game is unique in its own way. Both games are good, with their strong and weak sides. The main reason is for you to enjoy it. I, myself wouldn't recommend WoW if you only play 5-10 hours a week. Since you will be flushing down money in the toilet. Thats the bad things about monthly fee, people just get this psylogical burdon on them, especially when you don't have to much of that money to spend.Endless space, endless exploration.

If you plan to spend online 10 hours daily then probably paid server is your way tho.
And i guess they will make better emulators so population will grow (and it may end as UO free shards )
you can pm me for link - dunno if some mod wouldnt consider that as warez. Despite it isnt - as i understood those free servers are legal ( pain in blizzard ass tho)Last edited by Volny; 06-15-2005, 09:25 AM.Plutarch: "To find a fault is easy; to do better may be difficult."

PvP in Guild Wars pisses me off. They totally changed it from beta and it makes me out ragged. I dont want to GRIND three characters to unlock all skills, I just want to PvP! They lied to me, lied.
Anyways, Guild Wars is a great game if you can get passed certain things. It's not at all a traditional MMORPG so why people comapre it to WoW is beyond me. PvE is great the first time around, but is very painful to do over and over again if you are a PvPer. The quests and missions are just not worth doing over again. Umm, the game is a bit linear. You can not jump and the paths are pretty straight forward, which result in not much freedom. The game is lacking in the character storage/bank department which they said they will update soon. I've been forced to make a mule character to hold all my items. Another thing that I don't like is the lack of armor... there isn't much to choose from. There are like 5 basic styles throughout the game.
On the plus side the game is very nice on the eyes. Looking at the environment is a treat. PvP is really fun once you get up to level 20 and unlock the skills. The PvP builds they provide you are lame, I recommend just PvE to unlock skills and make your own build. Hall of Heroes, if you can find a good PUG or if you are in a Guild is fun as well. Best part of the game is the PvP, I really enjoy just tinkering with my build and trying out new stuff. It's well worth the $50 you put down on this.()_()

Oh I get it, so the "Guild Wars" thread name means we are comparing the two. Gotcha.
But really you can't compare the two too much because they are on different ends of the MMORPGs spectrum.Last edited by Heatha; 06-15-2005, 03:25 PM.()_()

Party of 5? So you can't form raid groups on the private servers? :s How can the servers be legal?

Sounds like GW sucks abit right now, from what heatha said. I wasn't a big fan of PvE back at beta, and its so boring to farm money and material for armor, etc. Imho, the PvP in GW is the best thing in GW. A other thing I didn't like was the character customization. Like.. hair, height, face, gender, skin color and thats about it, also the armors didn't differ that much either, most warriors went for either knight armo or plate or the ascalon armor (or what it was called) then you could like dye your armor in different dyes, not a large varitey. Ofc, everyone wanted black.. : >Endless space, endless exploration.
