I have recently been considering installing some distribution of Linux on my other partition. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of the best version?

Home, Pro... doesn't matter unless you're going to use the extra features of Pro.

Schope: Why would you use Server 2003 instead of XP at home? Unless you're doing a lot of IIS web/ftp/smtp/etc-serving or using it as an AD server, there's no need to gobble up the extra cycles. And why would you run both IIS and Apache?

Ice-Demon: I do all my multi-tracking on XP. It's quite nice.
i use 98 at home. i dont know if that would be better dude. i got an amd k6-2 500 here with 192 mb ram. XP would run way slow here right ?

i use that at work. I need all those services but ftp/dns and stuff so i disable it. I need smtp to send mail from my code. I i also need apache tomcat to run jsp/servlets and iis to run asp/dotnet/php. I think windows server is pretty fast for my machine at work i got a 1.7 celerom with 256 ram with all onboard stuff.

EXCELLENT LINK - But is it any better than the one in windows disk cleanup? it also has a windows components remover. this better not be one of those progs that leeches off of windows component wizard, like those boot time disk defragmenters that simply add 'defrag c:' batch file to your StartUpOnce

Get Ubuntu!! It's based on Debian (one of the best linux destributions) and it's easier to install and to learn how to use, dont think twice get Ubuntu it's linux for human beings as they advertise...

My present computer is a pIII 750 that started with 64 mb of ram, upgraded to 192...... then I reformated to get rid of that ME garbage and installed SP Pro which I got brand new for 30$ from my cosin who is a saleman at Microsoft, it ran fine with only 198, then I found 64 mb of ram, then I found at 256 and now I am running at 512 mb. Its getting slow I think I need to reformat soon.

it's ubuntu, and it is. google, I'm feeling lucky: "Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". Ubuntu also means "I am what I am because of who we all are". The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.

emaho: it must suck to not get software updates anymore.
