if you can afford it, once you're an experienced rider, get a nice cornering machine like a Fireblade or an R1 and you'll never need a girlfriend again.
Just don't kill yourself. Take the MSF safety class and get a license.
Yea, that's the plan. They got one over here for about $200, and once I pass it, I can get insured for less than $300 per year. That's kind of a cool suprise because I heard they were seriously expensive to insure.
Right now, my prob is figuring out what kind of cruiser I'm going to get. Hopefully, something used under 10k-20k mi. I'm not really sure where to look for used bikes, though. I'm also not sure if I should get a 250cc or a 450cc.
Cheap is not all that good. Have it checked out or sold by an authorized dealer.
250CC huh...A one lung bike.
Go for the 450CC, as you will most likely wish you went that way a few months after getting the 250CC.
Kawasaki 440 LTD is an easy bike to ride for a 1st bike.
Are you looking for a crotch rocket? If so, Triumph makes a nice handling Bike...but they are loud!!!
Too many old friends of mine are dead from riding Bikes, not due to there driving, but the massive amounts of jerks in SUV's & Trucks on the road...add a cell phone in hand and you have the makings for an accident. Too many cars on the road near me anymore to justify getting a Bike.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.
250 is pretty darn small. 400-600 is good for a first bike.
The Kawasaki 440 looks like a good choice.
Standards are ideal for beginners, but not everyone likes that style. My first was a Suzuki GS500E. That bike turned into today's SV600. Both would also be a good first choice.
Insurance is sub-$300 if you don't get a sport bike and have tickets. Mine has always been $170-210 for a year. My roommate's has been up to $900 on his sportbike. With Progressive you can get layaway (comprehensive only in the winter months) to help keep the cost down.
Keep in mind a helmet/jacket/gloves cost money too. A tank bag is my absolute favorite piece of luggage. Convenient and useful even if you don't plan on any long trips.
I'm looking to get my first bike soon, too. I think I've decided on a Kawasaki Vulcan 500 (a cruiser). I just don't see the appeal of a sports bike, as you're always leaning forward and supporting yourself with your arms. That's also a pretty aggressive position, and (to me) it seems it would make you want to ride faster (which is maybe why you'd want a sports bike, but I'm not looking to kill myself by doing 180 down the highway).

Yay! i love motorcycles. One of my boyfriends had a Honda CBR 600 rr its pretty fast and pretty nice! But he used to love is motorcycle more then me <_< .
Ok, I finally paid and signed up for the class. Unfortunately, the soonest class I could schedule was mid August. So, I got 6 weeks to wait around. I guess it's no big deal, because I couldn't afford to buy a bike right now anyway.
I've been looking at the Honda Shadow VLX Deluxe, which is really...the next size up I could find in any of the big 4 japanese manufacturers. So the next engine size I could find from a 250cc was a 580cc (I'm just looking at crusiers, not streetbikes).
But at least that will take care of the issue with wanting a bigger bike after 2 months. Everyone's been telling me after a couple months I will be wishing I bought a bigger bike than the 250.
I almost bought a CBR 600 a few months ago, but I changed my mind at the last minute. As of now I'm putting off buying a crotch rocket till after I get my CRX swap'd and running properly... So about 2+ years, haha
