I remember watching the original War of the Worlds. It actually wasn't that bad for a black and white (They're not really my taste [movie]). I can't wait to see the new one.

I think I saw a programme on tv where an expert was worried about youngsters of today not knowing the real origins of the story. They only know about the movie (premiered 1952 or something?) or about the radio show.

EDIT: And the book is called the mother of all science fiction books, along with The Time Machine (by H.G. Wells too).

If I'm not mistaken, Isaac Asimov is considered the father of science fiction... maybe he slept with H.G. Wells and War of the Worlds was born.

I Read the book, saw the original movie & have even listened to a re-broadcast of the original show, that was done as a Halloween anniversary tribute back in the mid-late 80's. Have visited the supposed Grovers Mill, NJ now known as West Windsor Twp. NJ for the anniv. (decades ago) of the broadcast and personally, after seeing and hearing Tom Crusie for the past 3 weeks on TV, I cannot stomach seeing this in the theatre. I will wait for the DVD, of which will probably be available on the streets oh Philly the day after it hits the theatres here.

How much different can it actually be from the original storyline. The premise is the same basically.

But for you Tom Crusie lovers...we will all be blessed again with his action packed Mission Impossible 3. I think this is the one that combines the cast of Police Academy 1,2,3,4,5 & 6.

this thread needs a SPOILERS warning on the title.

i heard the movie was a downer because it was said to revive too much sorrow about the 9/11 tragedy. the paper also said that it was based in NJ (woot) instead of NY to avoid looking like another 9/11.

Up unti lthe last 10-15 minutes of the movie, it was pretty good.

Spielberg should have drawn out the ending just a little more.
Dakota Fanning was the ONLY actor in this whole movie.
Gah, Cruise is all down hill now.

Can his accent be any worse than Madonnas fake accent?

BTW the original story was based in NJ and never was it in NY.
