Madonna and her Fake British Accent

I just saw an interview with her in regards to the upcoming Live 8 concerts & as to her participation in the Live Aid concert back in `86.

I am just amazed at the fake accent she has developed....what a phoney!

I guess she is just too embarrased of her past of being a fag hag (not that I have anything against anyones sexual preferences).

She is the kind of woman that when the air conditioner isn't turned on, Madonna goes from 0 to bitch in about 2.3 seconds. Coincidentally, I think that's about as long as it took her to get that fake British accent!

Just watched a tv interview with her and she's got a weird accent, some of the words she says with a deep American accent and some are decidedly English so she can switch between accents 4 or 5 times in one sentece

So people pick up accents when they live somewhere?

I would understand if she was a young person, but she's an old lady. I didn't think old people picked up accents like that after they had long established their language and speech patterns.

Well originally when I was a kid, I had a Blackburn/Barrow hybrid accent because that's where my parents are from. Because of school and people taking the piss and correcting everything I say, I thought fuck it, I'll change it. I've had to change my accent to this shitty Southport one, the accents of which I can't stand, and I've had it for most of my life now. The two accents are quite different so I used to fuck up with stuff I pronounced.

It made my life easier though.

I don't know why Madonna would feel the need to change her accent to be honest.

Because her career in the US was getting as dry as a piece of beef jerky, so she felt the need to "reinvent" herself. Coincidentally, she did the whole name change/kabal thing about 6 mo. before her album release (this was a few yrs ago).

My parents speak Cantonese in different accents depending on whether they are with my dad's side of the family or with my mom's.

How does Gwyneth Paltrow speak when she's in England? She often plays English roles and changes her speech accordingly enough that some people think she actually is British and needs to fake an American accent.
