How insecure is your company? Lmao. I am an athlete myself, have played AAA hockey all my life and have just been drafted to Junior A, and still, yet, we haven't had a drug test, although there will be one before the first exhibition game.the price is right, bitch.

A lot of companies/businesses perform drug tests on their employees. It has nothing to do with insecurity but more to do with the people running the show not wanting some cracked out fucks working for them. Especially for jobs where it matters a lot if you're on drugs on the job.
The construction company I used to work for had a good system worked out - they never drug test (because of course 90% of the employees would fail and have to be fired) but whenever someone is hurt and they are up for workman's compensation they don't get it because they fail their drug test. So it's kinda like the ball is in the employee's court as he/she is the one who incurs the risk.
Thankfully I work in the restaurant business now and drugs are allowed!

It may also have something to do with the company being held liable if one of their employees kills someone else while operating a piece of heavy equipment while under the influence.
And here is another thought, I know of several companies that refuse to issue drug tests because the laws read that if the employee fails, the company becomes responsible for the cost of rehab of that employee.
My own opinion and one that I use in my company, an employee can be asked to take a drug test after any kind of accident.
Frankly, I really don't care if my employees come to work buzzed, as long as it does not effect their productivity and as long as their job does not include any way for them to hurt someone else. I doubt that an engineer sitting in his office is going to hurt himself or others by falling out of his chair, and I haven't hired too many engineers that might freak out on some bad crack.
Even in operations, I would be hard pressed to say that a person under the influence might fall into the wave solder machine or fall asleep and get mangled by a rouge robotic PCB pick and place machine.
Yes, it is true that the forklift guy shouldn't be operating under the influence. And the people in Shipping and Recieving need to take care that they don't fall off the dock and under an 18-wheeler backing in, but so far that hasn't happened. :/
