It's not just the ridiculousness of SUVs, it's the insanity of the entire suburban living regime. Forget what Europeans pay, it doesn't
matter. They don't have as many of them spending an hour on the freeway to get to work. They have much better public transportation and are far less car dependant than Americans. A 30 mile trip for them is more likely an occassional visit to relatives. A 30 mile trip for us is the morning commute. No comparison.

Actually, my dad has to drive 50 kilometres to work every day. So that makes 100 kilometres every day. So you just compare two totally different things with eachother. Sure there are people who go to work by bike over here, but you have them in your country aswell. And we also got people who have to drive far to get at work, same as you. So that doesn't really matter.
Public Transportation ?? Lols .. a trip you do by car in 20 minutes, takes you an hour by bus. You lose too much time if you actually use Public Transportation. And added to that, it also even is too expensive. You can better pay the fuel and get there in 20 mins, than pay as much money for the bus, and get there in 60 minutes..

Not true, higher octane fuel offers no real benefit for most cars.

To expound on this, it can even hurt it / KILL gas mileage:

The different levels are different octanes. Octane refers to how "burnable" the gas is. I don't know this for sure, but I'm pretty sure regular fuel burns faster, and premium burns slower (or the other way around, that's what I'm not sure about). Engines are tuned to use a certain type of fuel - most cars use regular. If they don't and use premium, the spark plug ignite timing is fucked up. If you drive a manual (this is a cool trick that most Supra owners can do easily for some reason), using the wrong gas (premium) can actually build up unburned gas in the muffler/exhaust piping and eventually explode, turning your exhaust pipe into a flamethrower.

Oh, and you damage your engine and reduce fuel economy. But it's worth it for the flame trick. Most new cars monitor the fuel / air ratio and can detect the fuel type and retard the spark plug so your engine won't knock, though.

But once again. FLAMETHROWER

Edit: sadly, I can't do the flame trick anymore because I retuned my ECU for Premium gas for better mileage and power, like a week before Katrina. I think sooner or later I'm going to research and ghetto-rig a way to switch in between computer ECU times. If anyone has a way / heard of a way to do this, PLEASE share. (also, my pals were wondering if it's possible to manually control the cylinder de-activation in some new V10 model cars)

The octane number mostly means how much you can compress the fuel. The higher the octane, the more you can compress. 91 and 95 are the normal but old cars use 98/91 or even 99. The strange thing is, that even though higher octane means that it burns less easily, but it's still considered more powerful, just because of the possibility to compress it more in the cylinders before igniting.

France, Germany, Italy, (those 3 got a GDP 5-7 times more than your country). Netherlands, Spain.

It's not exactly street legal, but they have a switch that will focus the gasoline out another pipe and have a ignitor before the pipe.

In 60's cars you can force enough gas into the engine that it doesn't all ignite and it goes through the exhaust pipe and burns up in/after it. Probably possible to do in new cars too but I have no idea how easy it is. And with these gas prices, I don't think you want to waste any gas on making a flamethrower on wheels.

The part you replied to was the part about getting a manual ECU switch, I can do the flame trick

Last night actually, we drove by the Bayou Walk and saw a Supra, too bad he didn't do it. But it was one that had definitely been tuned, and if I had a tuned Supra I probably wouldn't try any flamethrowing tricks either
