I feel pretty confident in saying that Continuum would never go open-source. It would just defeat the purpose of the project, which was to eliminate all of the cheating.

Sure he hasn't been doing much with it lately, but I hope you know that the game would have died long ago if it wasn't for him.

Opening the source for this game wouldn't necessarily make it better. What it most certainly would do is open it up even further for exploits. And that sounds awesome, doesn't it?

That isn't necessarily true, and I think you know that, Conc.
If he released everything except for his encryption routines, which is what is holding back the cheaters, development could continue, without a flood of cheaters. He has the right to not release anything if he doesn't want to, sure.
It does belong to him, after all.

Seriously, Sarien. Think about some of the dipshits that play this game--some of these kids would spend hours on end finding some sort of loophole in the code to allow for an exploit. Shit, people still do it, and the source isn't even in out in the wild. Why would you give those people just that much more of an edge? If you're truly committed to the project and approached Priit with a plan, you might have a fair shot of getting a crack at the code.

I don't want to make this an "open vs. closed-source" argument, because that's just not what it should be, but really, does it bother anyone all that much?

Certain things should be Open-Source, and certain things should be Closed.

For example: Firefox should be open source.
Continuum and other games should remained closed.

You're absolutely right, that is exactly what they would do, and what they already do. I just know that I'd like to see an OpenGL version, that could be ported to OS X. That's really my only gripe. But like I said, the shit belongs to him, so he's able to do, or not do, whatever he wants with it.

I mean, after all, you don't see me kicking ass trying to write an OpenGL clone, do you?

my ping was always low when the server was in finland. now it's a bit higher..
