My brother keeps bugging me to buy him an ipod when I go to Taiwan. He is 14 years old, he already got a camera, Nintendo Ds, mp3 player, cell phone (with camera&mp3 player), etc., and now he wants this too, because everyone has one. I don’t see what’s so special about the ipod at all, isn’t it just another status booster for high school kids? I asked why he wanted it and he answered me with like “I don’t know, my friend has one and it’s really cool”, “you can listen to music and watch pictures!” Why would you want to watch pictures on a thing like that? I don’t get it.

No, I got an mp3 player during Black Friday (whichever day after Thanksgiving) on sale. It works well and I'm satisfied.
Although, society has dubbed the cool factor to be the iPod. Consequently, it's a $300 pricetag. I wouldn't mind having one, but I do mind paying that much for it. I'll survive without it.
On another note, may I inquire as to how that happened and how old you were when it happened? It sounds like you're still a teen?boo...

IMHO ogg is overrated.
OGG is better than LAME mp3 at nearly any bitrate, but once you hit LAME aps (which doesn't take up that much space) it's hardly possible for most people to ABX it on their music equipment.
OGG burns mattery life roughly 33% faster than mp3.
I don't think most mp3 players, if any support ReplayGain and that means you can't normalize OGG volume while mp3 ReplayGain just writes the gain directly on the mp3 and thus player support is not needed. (Not sure about this one)- k2
